this year

by: What happened

This year it seems a lot of girls that should have made it in a house instead didn't get a bid. Sounds like there is some failure of communication starting at pha. They seriously need to reevaluate their information system. A system failure

I totally agree with you. I only listed 2 sororities and didn't even click with my second choice and my first choice pref round went amazingly and the girl said i'm practically good as gold for getting a bid then I went to bid day and got a bid from my second choice and that pref round and every round at the house went so poorly.

The issue is the entitled attitude of PNMs. You aren't guaranteed a bid to the house of your choice. Get over it.

Then rg's need to stop telling PNM's that if they maximize here options then they will get a bid, cause girls are doing that and still not getting bids. Stop leading people on. It's easy to critize these girls when your experience went great.

Yeah, but Rho gams tell girls that if they maximize their options that they are guaranteed a bid but they leave out the part that you have to make it to pref night first.

Not every girl....Builds a cheap resume like a beauty queen to make sororities. Not every girl...knows to start finding alum to write recomendation letters either. Not every girl knows!!! Thank god, I knew someone. I was shocked I made it. I'm average. I watched super models w amazing personalities, walk out the door. Not because they thought they were to good..but because they felt cheated.

i honestly didn't find recruitment to be that competitive. i got a bid to the house i wanted and i know a lot of my friends did too. and they are considered good houses.

Actives posted on here all along to get your recs. Others said, "this isn't the south". Well, guess what, recs help because you make connections. My house gets alums all the time that reach out to pull for "their girl". We hear all the great things about them, get their resume and know more about them when they walk in the door than they are aware.

Times have changed at Ohio State. While Recs are not required, get them.

GET RECS. It could make a difference. Thank God I listened to my friend's SEC sorority alum mom who stressed the importance of them, even at OSU. I admit I doubted her, but decided to take her advice. A great rec written by someone who knows you could open the door a little wider for you because it makes you more interesting initially in the eyes of the membership committee, and worth getting to know better. I know it helped me stand out in the crowd, especially since I am not from Ohio, and didn't have any pull. Now of course you need more than a great rec, you have to be your best self, and sell yourself, just like you would in the job market. Girls go into recruitment and somehow think that it isn't competitive because we aren't in the South, but it is. With OSU's standards getting higher every year, pretty much everyone coming into Recruitment is smart, had a high gpa in high school, and had all sorts of activities, awards and experiences, otherwise they wouldn't get in here. So put the effort into finding recs. it may make the difference between being dropped or making it on to the next round where they and you can get to know each other better.

In reference to getting recs, I had them for every house except for one, and that one ended up being the house that I joined. So they are helpful, but definitely not necessary.

Almost every woman is garunteed a bid. I would say close to 99%. The problem is PNM's are so strung out on the a tier system, that they place top houses at the top of their list, not places that would fit them well. Everyone is garunteed a bid, but everyone doesn't realize that it probably won't be into their 1st/2nd/3rd choice house.
