Panhellenic needs to make a new one

by:

Can Panhell start another sorority this year? They dropped hundreds of girls this upcoming recruitment because we only have 15 sororities and I feel like we can benefit heavily from either SDT, SK, ADPi, Phi Mu. Nothing stupid like TPA, Phi Sig, ASA, DEPhi.

they voted this year against bringing a new sorority on campus since many chapters were not hitting quota before recruitment, and it's kind of a long process to bring a new chapter onto campus so i don't think it'll happen soon

ADPi and Phi Mu want to come back.

ADPi, SDT, Phi Mu all sold their houses and it will be tough to find adequate housing to make them competitive. SK was at OSU for a hot minute in the early 90s. They had a terrible house and were never competitive.

"They" didn't "drop hundreds of girls".

Girls dropped out because they only wanted the top three houses and they felt they were too good for the others. When they got dropped by Pi Phi, Alpha Phi and DG, they flounced out of recruitment.

If you stay in the process, you will get a bid unless you have three heads but maybe even then it's possible. We do not have a competitive recruitment at all. Nothing like SMU or Texas or those other SEC schools, or places like Indiana where it truly is cutthroat.

What we do have is a problem with everyone unfairly bashing the "lower tier" sororities so that PNMs discount them even before they meet them.
Adding another sorority would just dilute things further and make it harder for Gamma Phi AGD etc to make the numbers and we'd eventually lose one of those.

What we probably need is one or two fewer sororities.

Close to 400 girls dropped out. Certainly not that many girls are that stuck up and only wanting “top tier”.
What is noticeable, and not just a coincidence, is that some of the sororities that have the most difficulty with recruiting and retention also have the houses with the least amount of curb appeal. The alumni and national headquarters should be investing in improving their houses, not neglecting them. Have you seen what their chapter houses look like at other universities in the Big 10? It’s unfortunate and not a good look for OSU, and sorry to say not a place many PNMs are going to be enticed to want to live or hang out at. Bring on a chapter that will show a bigger desire to invest in OSU.

Yeah actually there are. So many dropped when they didn’t get the top ranked house. It’s a mutual selection process not a competition. I feel sorry for those who dropped because of ranks. So sad….

OSU has a problem bc you have certain chapters who have been in historic homes and owned by alumnae; ddd, dg, kkg, kat, pi phi with long histories and are gorgeous but then renovating falls on alums to donate bc the house doesnt belong to nationals

then you have houses own by nationals that are nice but not as traditional greek bc nationals doesnt see osu as a traditionally green school (compared to an indiana)

then you have houses that nationals doesnt want to/cant afford from a business standpoint to invest in (aopi had to rent, gpb has to rent, agd struggles and reorgs every 20 yrs) so since those arent changing, average physical houses dont have the pressure on them to renovate/improve/rebuild
