Sorority bids and grades?

by:

Is there a way to find out which sororities prioritize grades over others? I'm a little nervous about maintaining a high GPA this semester because I have some classes that I think might be super challenging.. As long as I meet the criteria to go through recruitment, will I be okay? Or do some houses have specific GPA cutoffs?

I know I could ask about grades and stuff during recruitment, but I didn't want to position it in a way that seems like I don't value my grades because I definitely do! I'm just nervous about starting my first semester and was looking forward to rushing so I've already started to overthink things lol :/ (if it helps, I do not mind which house I am in, just didn't want to walk into it knowing I will get dropped by most..hopefully this semester will go well so I won't have to worry lol)

So I will say grades are the easiest way for houses to make cuts without really knowing all the girls yet, so grades are definitely a factor for all houses, regardless if the house is known for their academics or known for being super social. You can always go through formal recruitment and get a feel for things, but just know that you might get dropped from houses pretty early on if your grades are on the low end of the cutoff.

However, as someone who struggled during my first year with grades (not a hard schedule, just a hard time adjusting to my first year away from home) I waited until my sophomore year to go through recruitment. My grades got better and I felt like I had a better handle on not only my schedule and academics but also the kind of house I'd be comfortable in. Hopefully everything goes smoothly for you this semester and you have a great recruitment experience, but if not, please know that PLENTY of girls go through recruitment as sophomores! Best of luck this year!

I haven't searched for this myself but I believe someone said before that the GPA averages for all the houses are published online somewhere

PNMs should still keep in mind that even the house with the lowest avg GPA is still going to make grade cuts. Houses don't want to stress about not maintaining their GPA so definitely prioritize your studying this semester! And like another comment said, there are certainly girls who wait until informal recruitment, so if things don't pan out for formal recruitment there will be other opportunities to join a house

Another thing to keep in mind is that a lot of houses uses GPA to decide who lives in the house so it’s important to try to get the highest gpa possible
