frats
by: new studentWhat fraternities are better in each category? - parties, involvement, brotherhood, etc. Also, what type of guys would I find in each of the bigger or "top" ones? And then what are considered the "top tier" fraternities at OSU? I don't care about an order, just who's in the top group whether it be a top 5, 10, 15 or whatever.

You'll get biased answers on involvement/brotherhood. Obviously the Top Tier have the best parties. Smaller fraternities on campus will say they have better involvement (usually true) and brotherhood (all a matter of opinion)
As for the type of guys, don't listen to what people on here have to say. That's something you need to see first hand by going to rush events
Right now the only Top Tier are Phi Psi, TKE, and Sammy. Everyone says Sammy is off campus but as of now I dont think any decisions have been made and until they have they're still top tier. Delt and Phi Delt are behind those 3. Sig Chi was top tier but they've taken a huge step back, I think they'll be back soon though.

Phi Psi: best looking and most wealthy
TKE: very diverse, muscular, hard partiers
Delt: preppy, diverse in looks, not as douchy
Phi Delt: big partiers
Kappa Sig: have potential this next year, think they are frat stars
ATO: some really good looking guys and some weird guys, kind of hit and miss with parties
Sigma Chi: They use to compete with phi psi a lot for best looking and most wealthy, but now that they are in trouble and a lot smaller fraternity then that isn't the case anymore

The ones already listed are all top or upper middle tier (except maybe not Sigma Chi after their membership review, and definitely not ATO - why are they listed?). These will be good bets if you want to join the top. This year is going to be interesting though, and there will be some movement, so not all of these will be top by the end of the year. If you want a more detailed breakdown, here's what my sisters and I think:
Top (and will stay top):
Phi Psi and TKE (descriptions same as above)
Moving up (could be top or upper mid):
Delt (same as above)
Kappa Sig (same as above)
Pike (went from DZ to Tri-Delt for football block in one year - aka huge jump. seem to be pretty fratty and good guys. similar to Delt, but probably a less random assortment of guys)
Sigma Chi (description same as above, but who knows what'll happen to them. should move up at least some)
Moving down (could end up middle or lower):
Phi Delt (description same as above. hurt by Kappa and DG being in trouble)
ATO (falling fast. need to get their act together)
SAE (not sure if they're moving down, so much as they're staying right where they are, which is middle tier. nice group of guys, and are very sweet, but haven't changed much)
If you're looking for a top frat, or a solid middle tier to upper mid, these are the ones to check out. No one else is making the right moves to be in the middle or top. All of these frats have a good number of guys (think >70).

really should just go to several different houses and see which house you can see yourself being comfortable in and getting along well with guys. A lot of guys end up trying to go into the top tier houses and end up being dissapointed when they do not receive bids, so make sure you try out a lot of different houses. It is important to have an open mind during rush.

directly from Ryan Crossley; theyre only off campus for two years, but will be returning at the end of that time period with their current members who are still enrolled students as well as plans to rebuild the excellent chapter they were.
