Greek life at OU was surprisingly bigger than I expected. Going through sorority recruitment in the fall was difficult with how long the days were and how much effort was put into everyone's appearance and the whole system overall. It calms down once everyone finds their home but all of the sorority houses are so pretty looking and greek life def helps you to make more friends and connections.

In all honesty, greek life has a big but not overwhelming presence at OU. Definitely has philanthropic events throughout the year, but more required involvement from ALL chapters would be a good way to improve. Socially gives a big boost but you don’t need to go greek to have fun at OU. There are defined tiers here, and some frats/srats are VERY selective on who they bid (ex: fratwise- Sig pi, Phi psi, Beta sratwise- Adpi/ChiO/PiPhi)

A few chapters (both frat and srat) bring down the general attractiveness rating significantly. OU isn’t a HUGE Greek school to the point where you will get picked on if you’re not Greek. Hazing really only happens in Fraternities.

Active chapters and most of the houses are really nice, especially the sororities.

Although a fairly small percentage of people are in Greek life, recruitment can be pretty cut throat. Honestly would say that Greek life is a great social boost at OU but definitely not required to have fun at this school! I'd recommend at least giving it a shot

Greek life here: greeks are on top of the party scene, but they do not run it. what i mean by this is that they hold down the bars, and throw the best parties, but you do not need to be in greek life to party. Frats throw the best parties at fest season, but other than that house parties at OU are lacking. The party scene is really run by the court street bars, and everyone knows it. This can be viewed as good for the social scene though, everyone parties together at the bars, greeks and non greeks alike, which of course is because they are not exclusive. people are very social and know each other, they just suck at throwing house parties because everyone is lazy and just wants to go to the bars. Can't speak for hazing because every chapter is different, most chapters probably have little to no hazing compared to what you hear about stereotypically.. fraternities have to be careful nowadays because negative sentiment against fraternities is rising especially on liberal campuses. Fraternities are not very selective either. If we're being honest here most fraternities are all the same in how "good" or "cool" they are. its just preference. A few fraternities are larger and more selective perhaps. And some struggle with recruiting. Sororities are different though. Lot of attractive girls. many flock to the few sororities with the "hot girl reputations" but reality is that there are hot girls in almost every sorority. greek involvement is probably below average. Also, because this is a dry campus and I believe most fraternities are not allowed to host parties in their house, less people want to live in the fraternities houses, but prefer off campus housing/apartments for their upperclassmen years. Kind of hurts greek housing, less students want to live there. However most sorority houses are very nice, and some fraternity houses are nice too but many are probably older.
