Alpha Sigma Tau - ΑΣΤ Sorority Ratings at NYU

came out for nyu formal recruitment this past month, went through pref and decided going thru to bid day wasn't the right choice for me atm because of personal circumstances but i wanted to hop on to give my two cents cause i've been seeing a lot of very polarized ratings about ast. so first things first, no they do not have a traditional sorority vibe and if that's not what ur looking for that's fine but it's not an excuse to drag them. the girls are very laid back but i don't necessarily consider that a bad thing, they didn't put on false personas during recruitment so when they asked me things about myself and how i was feeling i got the sense that they actually did care about my answer. active members all genuinely do seem to get along, in conversations i had with them it didn't feel like an interview, i just felt like i was getting to know an aquaintance. their actives are all super welcoming and kind, i saw them in one of the last rounds of day one after we'd been asked to take our bags back to e&l (so we had been going without water for a while at this point) and the actives took the time to make sure everyone got something to drink or a snack, and made sure we were feeling ok right at the start, half of the other orgs i visited who brought snacks didn't even offer snacks they had on display to pnms and i got the sense it was more for the actives to have between rounds (which ok, that's fair but you could also just be transparent about that?). and if you want to talk about diversity in nyu panhel, ast and dphie are the only sororities who are actually doing an ok job with it. during formal so many other orgs preached about how diversity was so important to them and then only proceeded to give bids to woc who were skinny with VERY euro-centric features. ast is in the minority of orgs who actually recruit based on personality and will give bids to girls who are plus sized and/or don't fit into a white beauty standard. overall, they didn't put on the showiest recruitment out of the panhel orgs but i've also heard that they have a lot of actives studying abroad this semester so leadership was stretched pretty thin. i think a lot of these new ratings have been coming from pnms who cared more about how much orgs chose to spend on their recruitment themes and decorations than anything else, personally i don't see the lack of extravagance as a con when the girls are welcoming, fun to talk to, and they've got some of the best rates for dues out of all of panhel.

This group is the lowest bottom tier. They hardly do anything and are infested with drama and scandal. People quit all the time and officers resign regularly. They’re the tiniest of the Greek groups.

I dropped AST like a bad habit and wish I had earlier. There was zero sisterhood. The girls wouldn’t even bother to send me zoom links for the chapter meetings they still have online (whyyy??? It’s 2022 now, not 2020). They didn’t ask how I was after wisdom teeth surgery. They don’t help each other out. They sit like logs at meetings. We never have mixers with any hot guys… ever. AST is the lowest of the bottom tier… and for good reason. I wasted a lot of time trying to help them improve but they’re just not good sisters, not good people, and not a good sorority. I regret ever joining AST since now I couldn’t join an actual organization that has any sisterhood at all.

This group is the worst. I’m doing rush right now and these girls were just mean AF. They asked me why “someone like me” wanted to join. I saw one member glare at a plus-size girl. I saw a black pmn be ignored by actives. They’re very boring people, but worst… they’re just mean. I thought they would be nice down to earth girls since they dress casual and have average looks. But they’re just as mean as sororities could possibly get. Even worse, they have like hardly any members. The other groups all seemed so much bigger than Alpha Sigma Tau. Maybe their actives just didn’t participate in rush this month but it was weird how few there were compared to other round robbins my friend and I attended. I will not be putting them on my list of houses to go back to. I would take literally any other house but this one.

This organization is hateful and known for having no sisterhood. Their numbers are very bad and they never hit their quota. Their officers keep resigning and most of their positions are always open.

Some of the friendliest girls I’ve met in Greek life. Everyone in the org seems to genuinely like each other and get along with minimal drama. These girls know how to party and have a good time. Sooo underrated.

Going through recruitment this year, it seemed like the only thing they wanted to point out is that they are “the most inclusive and were created to be inclusive unlike every other sorority made”, which is great but also they couldn’t say anything without also making sure that they pointed out how much better they are, while having the personality and enthusiasm of a door…

The girls are so nice. They seem to actually like each other unlike some other sororities. They are very involved on campus whether that be philanthropy or other NYU sanctioned events. But they also know how to party. Always a good time running into them

Mix of girls, ones that go out are a good time. Show out if they get invited and always have hella energy

this sorority actually has the coolest girls. they have no drama and everyone actually seems like they wanna be there. typical sorority vibe but with a twist because they're actually diverse and care about their diversity. And better yet, they've never had a racism scandal!
