Analysis of sororities

by: Senior

A few thoughts...

Zeta and Kd are powerhouse groups that continually perform well during recruitment. I don’t see either house slipping anytime soon.
Adpi is one of the most consistent upper tier groups. Dg and ddd have undeniable potential to move past any top tier group provided they recruit extremely well for several consecutive years. In order for theta to break into the top tier they will need to outperform both dg and ddd and I’m not sure that’s possible. Xo is the most consistent mid tier house that genuinely recruits girls of a certain type. Pi phi, axo phi mu will continue to fluctuate within the mid tier but they need to watch out for aphi . Aphi is on the move to take over thetas spot as top of the mid. They have the potential to do that as their members are highly motivated by status.
Dz has been stagnant the last several years as has gphi. Both are very solid groups at FSU but have been challenged by aphi. Kkg and sdt seem to be happy right where they are. Aopi and agd will prob continue to be ranked where they are due to the competitive nature and strength of FSU recruitment. Here is the 2020 rankings:

Zta
Kd
Adpi
Dg/Ddd

Theta
Xo
Axo
Piphi
Aphi
Phi mu
Dz

Kkg/gphi
Sdt
Aopi
Agd

What makes Zeta #1 and KD #2? Curious what’s the difference between them?

Honestly I think both houses are fabulous and it probably comes down to preference most of the time. The past few years Kd has had a slightly more difficult time recruiting top notch girls and this year needed to do snap bids to make quota. I think it’s more of a reflection of the leadership within the house than the general membership.

this is the biggest aphi suck up ever. pi pho axo and theta do not need to worry about aphi

Oh but you do!! Like I said they are highly motivated. For a newer house in the highly competitive FSU sorority scene you’d be foolish to dismiss them.

There is zero sucking up to aphi in my post lol. I’m sorry if you choose to ignore the fact that aphi is absolutely motivated to be a successful sorority. I give them due credit for being so committed and if you are in one of the houses I mentioned you would be foolish to dismiss their drive and potential. Forewarned is fairwarned

Alpha Ohi is DESPERATELY tier climbing. What’s so bad about that? It’s a house built of cards. There is no substance and soon PNMs will notice that. They don’t need to be out rushed, they will cut their own necks.

The FSU sorority system is not ‘competitive’ and never will be as long as they make all sororities follow strict formal recruitment rules. If sororities were free to show initiative and go out across campus to recruit free enterprise, then you’d see competition.

Not sure you fully understand the concept of “birds of a feather tend to flock together”
You should be thanking your lucky stars that pnms are REQUIRED to visits ALL chapters because frankly many would not survive

Senior, I think I do understand your birds analogy. If you have a flock of ragged and relatively unattractive birds, and a few of them want to enhance the overall standing of the flock by adding a few or more of the Prettiest birds and they are allowed to seek out some of those pretty birds invite them to join the flock, then on their initiative the flock will improve. But if birds had formal recruitment the way Panhellenic organizes it, the more beautiful flocks MUST eliminate all prospects except the prettiest birds. If you doubt the mechanics then you have not read the Panhellenic recruitment rules. In practice, under the rules, the more beautiful flocks are prohibited from inviting ALL the potential new birds back. The less beautiful flocks can invite all the participating birds back, but the prettiest birds by design, are skimmed off the top long before recruitment ends. Yes, I’m a free enterprise system like the fraternities, some flocks would disband because they don’t have the initiative to attract new birds. On the other hand, some of the mo ore self-impressed flocks might get lazy if pretty birds were not brought to them by Panhellenic. Laziness might be their downfall.

What makes you think that pnms are going to choose certain houses if recruitment rules change? The same or more disparity would ensue and result in a weaker system. There is far more equity in the current system because it provides opportunity by shear volume for success.

Lets pretend that Panhellenic recruitment was like IFC in that any fraternity can rush and bid anytime, but there is still 'formal' rush where every PNM gets to see every house. The Sig Eps and others had as many as 20 PNMs already signed before 'formal' rush because they went out and hustled. A woman might choose, say, Alpha Phi instead of Zeta if the A-Phis got to her ahead of rush. Yes, the current Panhellenic restrictions means that every sorority gets a PNM class, but it also means that the bottom five will never move up to the middle, and the top five will never drop down to the middle. Not pushing Alpha hi but they are the only one that has made any move to get off the bottom, and they have had success.

Senior - not bad but I don’t see alpha phi taking theta’s spot at all. Alpha Phi is motivated I will give you, but pushing past Theta? No way.

Theta is a great house but it hasn’t always been top of the mid tier. They’ve had their share of weak recruitment years like all houses so yes, 100% it’s highly possible in 2-3 years for aphi to do. Houses within the same tier can and do change.

For example:

Back in 2007/8 dg and ddd were the top houses. 2009 happens and boom zta and Kd flip that for the next ten years.

I can 100% promise YOU I have no affiliation or ties to Alpha Phi...what I do have are eyes... I can see the results... denying their trajectory is not rational thinking.

Using IFC as a model would not really benefit lower mid or lower tier houses very much. The success of the top 5-10 or so houses has more to do with networking amongst potential candidates that will fit their house profile from their hometowns and a tremendous amount of effort in planning and building their reputations for excellence in the areas they deem important. Making excuses is just not acceptable particularly since ALL are given the same opportunity to recruit.

“not tied to alpha phi” but only arguing for that house? they’re not more competitive than any other house. taking zetas round 2 rejects doesn’t mean you’re gonna top theta axo or pi phi. those houses have consistently put on a great rush and the take girls aphi wishes would accept their bids. we know alpha phi stays on greekrank

by: Senior

The alpha phi comment is an observation not advocation for them. For a relatively new sorority they have moved quickly. Whether they can maintain that trajectory remains to be seen. I thought it was notable and should be mentioned. Calm down..
