Why are legacies more important in sororities than they are to fraternities?

Sororities are pretty much required to take legacies. Some Fraternities are more serious about it than others.

No, sororities are not pretty much required to take legacies. We are required to extend certain extra courtesies during recruitment to our legacies, but are not required to take anyone who is not a good fit for our chapter.

I haven't seen any fraternities at FSU that take legacies seriously.
