by: PNMDo rec letters actually make a difference at FSU or is it still mostly just about looks/what youre wearing

rec letters don't really make much of a difference at FSU. In some houses, it will get you past round one, but thats it. For other houses, if they don't like you then they'll still cut you even if you have one. Every house has ways of getting around rec letters. They don't matter much because in the end, if you don't mesh with them, they'll drop you.

Recs get you on a chapter’s radar because they can learn about you before they meet you. A rec can help a chapter to match you with a member who has a similar major or interest., which makes your visit with them more interesting for you. Some sororities (ZTA & DG for sure-there are probably others) require that each girl they pledge have a rec. it’s a national requirement. Because there are so many girls rushing, not having a rec, especially to one of the chapters that has to have one for each girl they pledge is an easy cut to make. And there are lots of cuts in the first round. As others have said, recs don’t guarantee a bid, nor do they guarantee a pass to the next round. There are simply too many great girls rushing who DID make the effort to get recs for the chapters to try to get a rec for a terrific girl that doesn’t have one.
Look at it this way. Would you go to a job interview without a resume’ and references lined up to vouch for you? Not if you wanted the job! And while a resume and references do not guarantee you will get the job, not having them will almost certainly guarantee you go no further in the hiring process. Recruitment is kind of like applying for a job, so do the networking to get recs to ALL the chapters. That gives you an advantage to potentially make it to the next round

Check with your advisors or your membership VP. Often times unless a member is a chapter officer or on the recruitment team she wouldn’t know this. It’s not mentioned in our new member education program. I mean, no one stands up during membership voting and says these girls have recs and then lists their names. That work is done behind the scenes and is taken into consideration as next round lists are being made.

You are definitely confused and not actually in a sorority. Recs don't work like that at all. Sounds like you are trying to describe policies for legacies. They are two completely different things. Recs are required by some sororities before they can offer a bid.
