can we stop with the "classy" please.

by: really?

Can everyone just stop calling themselves "classy" and other sororities "not classy." This is ASU! Get a clue. We aren't classy. Deal with it. Besides, I promise you that guys don't give a hoot.

This isn't NY city or LA. This is Arizona. Just a baby step up from Reno. Girls think acrylics are great. What can I say? If you don't like it then Arizona probably isn't the place for you.

Paying tens of thousands of dollars on multiple pageants all so you can win a $1,500 "scholarship" for shaking your stuff in front of a bunch of judges in a contest that doesn't even require a talent - ALL clASS.

You know- pageant women put themselves out there. Some people aren't going to like what they stand for (which incidentally is very denigrating to women). Those people have a right to voice that they don't like it. Loads of women who don't put themselves out there, who are just minding there own business get maligned on this website and in the greek system at ASU and nobody really stands up for them. Why don't you save your energy and defend real victims of bullying instead of cheese ball pageant people.

jesus people, if girls like to compete in pageants let them be!! Does it personally affect you? NOOOO. Its really none of your business what others do in their free time. Get a life

clearly you haven't taken a women's studies course to understand the detriment that pageants are to women.

it does affect me when I have to see that sleezball in all those advertisements around campus. I really don't want to see fake chichis pushed up in a picture telling where to shop. It becomes my business when I have to look at cheesiness shoved in my face. otherwise I don't care what people do.

what people do does effect one another. That is why we have a panhellenic council to deal with these issues. At the end of the day,it is a woman's choice if she wants to degrade herself and be in a talentless pageant. But to say it doesn't effect all of us isn't really true. We just have to deal with it. I don't like the image the greek system puts out to the ASU public. I particularly don't like the behavior of the "top" sororities. It isn't that I'm jealous. It just feels like they think they are the moral compass for all of us. They aren't. They effect all of us with there "everyone look at me" vibe. It gets old. When people speak up about it the pat answer is "you're jealous." That really doesn't help us get anywhere.

Pageants or not. Class isn't something tangible.

Are you really going to negatively stereotype entire chapters simply because you don't agree with the choices of a handful of pageant girls? Be grateful for your own house without "creepy values" if that's how you feel. Each chapter is very diverse, and you have no right to declare if their values are right or wrong. Show some decency, judgmental sorority girls that stereotype and put down houses are a poorer reflection of greek life than any pageant participant.

Sorry. It is more than a few pageant girls. And they don't do it quietly. Loads of sorority women do things quietly (like join the fencing club). They flaunt their creepy pageantness in everyone's face and they go around calling themselves "classy." They are creepy.

I think the original post was that people at ASU need to stop pretending they are classy. There is no classy sorority here. I agree.

There are pageant girls in all sororities, GPHI included. Pageant girls and sorority girls are basically the same thing. Overachievers who do a lot of community service, are well spoken, talented, poised and take pride in their appearance. That is what is the basis for all sororities nationwide. A true sorority girl takes pride in her letters and values herself.

most Greek women don't do pageants. The majority find it demeaning to women but respect others choices. I don't like that the !% of the Greek Sytstem that does pageants gets so much air time in our world. I joined a sorority for leadership, sisterhood, philanthropy and some socials. I didn't join to look like a tramp in front of judges and/or on TV. Most Greek women are not affiliated with pageants and don't want to be.

Have u not seen sororities Back East, in the South or Texas...they are all raised to be beauty queens and socially well-bred women. A sorority is supposed to be a stepping stone to your future as a strong well rounded business woman, wife and mother. Not just catty party girls. Lol
