There Really Is No Place Like Home

So Clean At Home

As the semester dwindles down there is one thing on everyone’s mind: break. Every collegian knows that there are some major differences between college life and being home for the holidays. Here are the top 5 indicators that you are home on break from college
.

1. Good Food

Don’t get me wrong; I like my 2am pizza by the slice as much as the next girl. However, late night bites and 3-minute microwavable Ramen noodles can only satisfy for so long. Being home means indulging in your hometown’s best restaurants during your hiatus. Aside from the abundance of restaurant choices, nothing says “I’m home,” like some good old fashioned home cookin from mom and dad.

2. Everything is Cleaner

There is nothing better than showering without shoes, am I right? Not only can you go barefoot in your shower at home, but you can pretty much go barefoot anywhere at home! Home is where your bedroom floors have no sticky residue from the previous night’s pregame. In addition to not having to wear your Hunters around 24/7, being home means clean clothes! I’m talking fresh out of the drier…no more smell test for that t-shirt that's been sitting on your desk chair or hiding under your roomie’s towel wrap for the past week.

3. No Schedule, No Complaints

First things first: Remove your 8:55, 8:57, and 9 am alarm that ensure getting to your 9:30 class on time. Not only do you get to turn off that awful iPhone alert sound, but also, you can sleep through the night without any interruptions. This means not having to worry about roommates bringing back that cutie they met at happy hour, or waking you up the following morning by turning on the lights. There is no difference between 2am and 2pm during break. Everyday is a Sunday.

4. Some quality R & R

If you don’t spend your break binge watching Game of Thrones, you’re doing it wrong. Don’t even bother feeling guilty about the 7 hours you have now spent in the same position on your couch. You had a tough semester and you earned the right to sit with a bag of chips while doing absolutely nothing.  Every college students needs a day, or two or ten of pure relaxation. Coming from the girl who currently lives in a Sorority house with 86 others, and actually loves it, it is nice to have some silence and not share a TV.

5. FOMO

FOMO; Fear Of Missing Out. You know all your friends are home, yet you still feel like you are missing out. FOMO can occur at any time, but it is definitely heightened during those long periods you are spending away from friends. Some signs of FOMO include; checking the groupme constantly so you’re up-to-date on everyone’s whereabouts, Facebook and instagram stalking, and replaying snapchat stories of what happened while you were stuck at a family dinner last night.

Skimmers: Being home from college does have some perks. You get to lounge around and do nothing while eating really well. On top of that you have nothing to do and all day to do it. You do unfortunately miss your friends but you’re not complaining about the peace and quiet you get within your clean and comfortable bedroom. And remember, if the overload of quality family time is getting to you…next semester is just weeks away.
