August is a slow month of Greek philanthropy efforts, but by September the frequency of events usually begins to pick up. On many campuses across the country, these are the first Greek philanthropic events of the year and many of the new member’s first opportunities to partake in one of the greatest facets of Greek life. Take a look at some of the most noteworthy philanthropic events of September 2017.


Alpha Nu at Washington State University – DACA Renewals

Alpha Nu, a multi-cultural sorority on WSU’s campus held a fundraiser to support Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals renewals. Many of the chapter’s members have people in their lives who have been directly impacted by the policy. In addition to the in-person fundraiser, the chapter set up a GoFundMe which has raised $7,600.
 
Sigma Nu fraternity at UC Davis - "Trekking for the Troops" 13 Sig Nu’s began their trek at the Veterans Home of California and then hiked 110 miles to reached the top of Mount Whitney. The hike lasted September 10th - 19th. They were raising funding The Pathway Home which supports veterans living with PTSD and other post-battle ailments.
 
Alpha Tau Omega fraternity at Marshall University – “ATO Goes Homeless” Every year since 2009 the ATO members at Marshall spend a week living out of cardboard boxes outside the student center. Their aim is to raise awareness and funds for the homeless population of Huntington, WV.
