Different year, same story: finals week is coming, and you need to review your notes before the big exam. But where you study said notes reveals a lot about your current thought process and likely what career path you might find yourself taking post-graduation. Take a look and find out what your preferred study spot says about you.
Your Room
Either you live alone or your roommates are saints, because it is near impossible for us peasants to study so close to our one and only true love (our bed). On one hand, you probably won’t see the light of day for a week or so. On the other, you don’t need to use headphones. Anyone who can successfully study so close to his/her bed is likely a really disciplined person and a self-starter. If you are one of these people, I’d bet you will join the startup world within a few years out of college.
The Library
This is the most vanilla of locations. You, like so many others, probably headed over to the library with high hopes and mounds of motivation. Maybe you’re alone in a cubicle, maybe you’re meeting with a group for a study session. Either way, once you’re done reading this article, you’ll probably look at the clock only to realize that you’ve spent the entire day on the Internet, and subsequently not getting anything done. If you are this type of person, you’re probably a pretty social person who thrives off interactions with others. It’s also likely that you often pull all-nighters the night before tests. Post-college you’ll get your work done, but only when it’s absolutely necessary.
A Classroom
The most obvious solution, and the most overlooked one. You’re most likely one of those kids who goes out and parties during the year, and then disappears during finals week. People may get skeptical, but it doesn’t bother you. At then end of the semester, you’re the one that comes out with a high GPA and some great college stories. If you are this type of person, you are likely good at gaming the system. Being able to balance work and play, you’re looking at a bright future once you get into the real world.
The Local Café
You either live off campus, or are really dedicated to making the trek to get some name-brand coffee. You enjoy the ambiance of the building, but the fact that you have to buy a drink to use the Wi-Fi is always in the back of your mind. You do your best to study and not stare at that cute classmate sitting by the window- or if you can’t, might as well buy them a drink and get a date out of it. Often people like you will eventually make careers out of being freelancer writers, graphic designers, web developers, etc. You find importance in being untethered and getting work done in the environment in which you’re most comfortable.
The Bar
You might as well not be taking the exams, and if you are, you’re going through flashcards on a subpar app in between pitchers of beer. This is pretty much only acceptable if you’re a senior, about to drop out of college, or have had the answers passed down to you through that non-existent test bank. Either way, have a drink in our honor while we try to survive the hardest week of the semester! As a young student, Richard Branson’s headmaster once told him ““You will either go to prison or become a millionaire”. That quote is likely fitting for you as well.
