sorority fees

by:

Can someone please tell me the est fees for each sorority? Yes, I have seen the low, ave, and high estimates given on Panhellenic but I would like an real estimate from current actives. I know the 3 new houses being built are going to increase their dues but how much for them and all the others? I am fortunate that I am able to pay the fees but I have close friends who are concerned. The fees might decide if they drop rush or how they rank the houses during recruitment. Help please

Sure, it's for your "close friends." Anyway if cost is a concern to your "friends" they shouldn't rush. It's not like you pay your fees and there are zero other expenses.

Both of my friends have full ride scholarships to Bama.... Wish I could say that ..with money left over for other college "stuff" which they are using for sorority life and will probably have money left over for all the other stuff, but I sure hope all girls aren't as suspicious and jaded as you are.

If you can afford 8k a year, you could join here. Unlike most colleges, this includes meals.

$4,000 a semester for sorority dues sounds a little steep. Is it common to offer credit, payment plans or reduced fees to deserving members who genuinely need it?

Most are around $3,500 per semester living out of house, but most don't include all the tee-shirts, zaps, and other incidentials you will want to purchase over the course of the semester. You can easily spend $10K a year. And no, I haven't heard of any that reduce fees.

Pi phi is the least expensive house and alpha chi is the most. Phi mu is known for being more expensive and Dg is known to get a lot of fines.

Some of the fraternities offer very small scholarships to stellar legacies, but I'm not aware of sororities offering similar awards. You might want to call national once you've accepted a bid. In general, you're looking at $10k per year. And that doesn't include living in the house...

Houses. That's the thing. You see. Whether or not you actually live in the house. You (or your folks) pay for the house. Its a big part of your fee. If you actually live in the house, then you pay rent for your room, on top of that. When a house loses members right before their house is going to be finished, then there is a problem. Same annual cost split among fewer members. Then the sticker shock of that increase per member creates more attrition. Things spiral from there. Houses do things they normally do not. Like COB. Just an observation. Conclude what you will.

You can call sorority and Greek life and they can give you an estimate on most houses. If you want to rush then do it. I pay for my own sorority dues believe me it's possible. For my first year it was about $6,700 and after that $6,000. It is a lot money, but it's definitely worth it.

Alpha Chi is through the roof. Kappa, ADPi, Theta are all about 3000 and there tend to be payment plans but no way to reduce fees. That also doesn't include the new outfits you'll need to buy, JNJ shirts (think 150 a month on average), and other basic things like going to dinner and bars. AND paying to furnish your dorm is a lot more than you'd expect. Bama is killing my family financially to the point that my mom can't even give me money for groceries once a month.

That's very good foresight, looking ahead to the actual expense of Greek life. So many girls come through thinking that they will figure out dues and other costs later... then literally end up in trouble when they actually can't afford it. This is unfortunate, but it is the way of the world. The sorority experience isn't for everyone and no one is entitled to be Greek. I hope it works out for you but please be realistic. Sorority life is not for the poor or those who are unwilling to work hard for it.
