shame on agd

For not supporting your sister in her quest to be HC queen. You were strong enough to stand up to your advisors, why not the Machine?

always knew that agds sisterhood was not that good. people kind of overlooked it because the same old story of "good grades, classy, old row, so involved good girls". newsflash: just because a sorority is in top of grades and aren't known as parties or are "top" because this site says they are doesn't mean their actual sisterhood is outstanding. no correlation between great grades and great sisterhood. hope this opens some eyes.

Huffington Post published some of the GroupMe and Text messages that older AGDs sent to members. It's pretty shameful all around. They're actively trying to throw their own sister under the bus. Honestly, I originally had no opinion on the matter - I was always going to vote on whoever I wanted regardless of what my sorority said, but I can say that I hope that Halle wins this race. It's not like the Machine will know who I voted for anyways.

I mean, sucks for Katelyn, she is very qualified too, but this is for Queen, not SGA President.

Not just huffington post. Also teen vogue and multiple other articles by different outlets. Those text messages are bad.

What I want to know is how they "obtained" those messages. What sister would risk throwing her entire house under the bus? No, the entire Alabama Greek system?

Now that results are out, maybe AGD played their cards right on this one from a strictly political point of view. They toed the line and kept the Machine happy and can still brag in their preview brochure and during rush that they had a sister on this year's homecoming court. (Of course, it still doesn't say much about what they value -- but you have to give them credit for potentially successfully gaming the system. Time will tell whether the terrible PR from failing to publicly support their sister hurts them in the long run more than continued Machine support and the good PR from having an HC court member)

The stain will fade but it will not go away. Will not change minds or affect 95 percent of pnms. But the 5 percent that will pref elsewhere cause of this are the top 5 percent and lost leaders. The best, the future ec members, like Halle was, will turn away.

No way will this be good publicity -- I doubt they will "brag" about having a HC court member for fear it could bring up this current situation. It's just bad and disappointing what happened.

I would expect that any house I join would support me in whatever I did. I probably wouldn't get a chance at homecoming queen cause I'm not pagaenty, I'm more into volunteerism, leadership, and academics. But the only reason to join a sorority (according to my mom) is for the sisterhood. If your sisters don't support you, you sorority wouldn't seem to be that good.

What a shame.

Chapters desire the "machine connection" so they appear more prestigious for recruitment.

Now a good chapter is faced with an ultimatum: 1. support a sister (lose future prestige), or 2. support the machine (lose trust of sisters)

Halle asked too much of them and should not have put them in this no win situation.

Oh. Nice. Victim shaming. It would have been somewhat questionable if they had already nominated a girl from their house and then she accepted a nomination from another group. THAT might have put Alpha Gam in a bad place. They don't have ANY OTHER SISTER nominated for homecoming queen. So there is NO CONFLICT.

Seriously! It's Halle's fault??? That's effed up!! AGD is cowardly. This story is going viral, the dirty underside of our system is once again on display for the world. Oh, and hope miss phi mu enjoys Her empty title if she wins, she's going to be the national joke, nothing like a stupid title bought by arm twisting and intimidation.

I am pretty sure all the other sororities would have done the same. This time it was AGD. Next time it will be one of the others. It's like a never ending cycle. If any of the sororities had a brain, they would band together and take out the machine. Fraternities can't function without sororities anyways.

I feel like I would want my sorority to back me if I were nominated for homecoming queen by a club or whatever even if I weren't machine backed. Otherwise, what's the good of being in a sorority if you don't have your girls behind you?
