Halle is pretty darned qualified and every bit as accomplished as the Phi Mu candidate.
Only thing is she is not Machine backed.
So yes, AGD is basically saying "SCREW YOU" to a sister to please the Machine. There is NO OTHER sorority at any university in this country that would act in such a way and treat a sister like that. Its disgraceful and just shows the true state of Panhellenic at UA.

And agd did this to a girl who has become a symbol of their leadership so it is not just turning their back on any member but on one of their very best-- a pioneer, an executive committee member and a major draw to their house for other future leaders. It was cowardly. So now agd reveals true soul. They are not leaders. Not brave. Not loyal. They are desperate followers. Little girls wanting desperately to be accepted by the self appointed "cool kids" that run the machine. This is just so disappointing.

My daughter will be going thru rush as a highly qualified legacy and AGD is one she has already marked off. She would rather NOT be in any sorority than in one that does things like this to one of their own sisters.

This is on ALL of the sororities not just AGD. They ALL allow TM to dictate their choices, in not only this but many campus elections. Unfortunately, most of the sororities would have probably done the same thing because they are so worried about their social status. And PNMS need to realize you have very little say where you end up, so watch you p's and q's.

Don't know what other machine linked houses would have done. Can't speculate. But do know AGD sold out their sister.

This is some sort of punishment for AGD. Remember Melanie Gotz was an Alpha Gam and she was part of what broke the conspiracy of silence on segregation. Then Halle was the first AA member of AGD. She is a leader for diversity and integration in campus life. She is associated with Spillers, the "non-machine" SGA president who also happens to be AA.
AGD had an opportunity to continue its leadership and actually live its creed -- but instead its leadership team has made a conscious choice to follow instructions from the machine as sort of a way to "show" the machine that they are not a rogue sorority. The machine could and would punish AGD if they did not. This is actually a form of punishment right before our eyes. It is a public humiliation ritual that they are being forced to go through to show their true loyalties. They are being forced to publically display that they are, first and foremost, a part of the machine and would rather keep "insider" status and compromise their principles than support their sister for HC. It is very basic and raw, like when an Alpha dog makes another dog in the pack lay on its belly and expose its neck. AGD is on the ground for us all to see.

From what I understand, if alpha gam were to support a candidate, it would have been MHT, not Halle. If they had supported a candidate, halle would have had to be sponsored by blend anyway. When the machine picked katelyn MHT decided not to run and alpha gam decided not to sponsor anyone. So it is an unfortunate situation but apparently alpha gam had already decided to vote matchine when Halle decided to run.

This being said I understand why people think it's weird that they have a sister running and they're backing someone else- but I have a feeling that they didn't want to vote anti machine two elections in a row.

"It had already been decided." What a laugh! How long does it take to make a vote in chapter? 10 minutes? I think MAYBE they had enough time!!!! At the very least, someone with a backbone should have stood up and explained sisterhood to the chapter.

From what I understand Halle didn't notify her sorority that she was running until she announced it to the public. AGD had already pledged support to another and Halle knew it. If she had wanted her sisters support she would have included them in her decision making process and let them know when she started preparing for her campaign, not a week or two later. Sounds like she is selling her sisterhood out to get publicity and make a point. Both girls are highly qualified and come on... It's just homecoming queen.

And Alpha Gam couldn't say "Hey, I know we said we'd support you, but we can't vote against our sister." Obviously they could have. They just didn't want to go against the machine. I think this is the end of Alpha Gam.

They definately could have and should have said that. What makes this so bad is that the house voted to hang a KKat banner and do nothing to support their own sister. Not even a "good luck" post anywhere. That is how scared they are right now. They have obviously been intimidated into a bad situation. When you have women in your house that think for themselves, they sometimes do things that the Machine does not like. I always though AGD were a group of women that could think for themselves. I am second guessing that assumption now. I think reality is that they have SOME women who can and do think for themselves, but that as a group they are cowards.

So AGD was part of the back room deal on hc and had no clue Halle was pursuing queen? Yea right. More like they knew and also realized it would be a cold day in hell before machine would back Halle. Machine is still totally pissed about spill the vote. So Halle did her own thing without them, knowing full well her own sisters would leave her hanging be they had to make things right with the machine. Sad thing is Halle surely understands what went down and why. Does not make it right or absolve AGD for selling out. Once in the machine you deviate from the plan without major discipline only, like once, then it's over. AGD stepped out twice now and they knew three strikes and they were out. Life without a phi ham swap was too unbearable to risk. Too bad they lost that swap already bc of phi gams hazing....

This also confirms who is behind the Machine. It is the frat boys that are so anti-spillers. The sororities are just foot soldiers. These soldiers are "paid" with confederate (not legal tender) money like HC (something a guy can't run for... at least not yet, I think) and the promise that they will be reassigned to ice station 90 if they misbehave. If it was an even partnership, SGA President backed by machine would be a female every other time, for example.

It really just tells you a lot about Alpha Gam. And everyone who votes for the machine-backed candidate (except for the PMs) is just as guilty. College students are taught to think for themselves. This whole machine story is such a black eye to Bama. I just wish we could go one full year without embarrassing ourselves.

I agree that this is problematic, but Katelyn really is an amazing girl. I'm in a non-machine house and I still voted for her. I don't think we should discredit Katelyn, it's not her fault that the Alpha Gams didn't support Halle

This dust up has nothing to do with the phi mu who is obviously outstanding. Problem is machine needed to stay out of it. Why can't Greeks just play it straight for once?
