suicide bids

Basically, there are no pros to a suicide bid. Plain and simple. By suiciding, you are seriously risking not getting a bid at all. If that chapter's pledge class fills up before they get to you, you're SOL. You aren't eligible for snap bids or quota additions. If you aren't on that chapter's first list, you probably won't get a bid. But if you don't suicide, not only do you have more chapters to choose from (and so more likely to be bid matched), but you are eligible to be a quota addition or receive a snap bid.
You have nothing to lose by not suiciding. And EVERYTHING to lose if you do. If you don't suicide, and you end up getting a bid from a house that wasn't your top choice, you have two options: 1) Give them a shot. Actually try to get to know the members. They wanted you for a reason, or 2) Decline the bid.

TO PREFACE: YOU SHOULD NOT SUICIDE.
Above posters have covered most of cons. Only pros which are much outweighed by cons is that you wouldn't have to deal with opening your bid card in front of everyone and being upset. Only other thing is that you would be able to try to COB before the next fall rush. That said you really shouldn't SIP (single intentional preference).
