There are any number of reasons. The most common are things like grades, reputation, recs, and how you come off during the parties (rude, arrogant, uninterested). But the actives know that you are tired and stressed and nervous. We can tell the difference between shy and uninterested. We realize that we aren't going to click with every single PNM. But remember that the entire chapter has a say in who gets a bid. Not just the people you talked to. If you clicked with the other girls, they'll say so. One awkward conversation does not mean that you won't get a bid. Don't stress too much.
The third day of recruitment, I talked to the chapter president. I knew it was a good sign to talk to anyone on exec. Except she scared the crap out of me and I was super awkward and nervous and I accidentally said something that offended her a little. I was sure I was going to get dropped. Instead, I got a bid to that house. And the chapter president became my big.

But as you get further into the week, tougher cuts have to be made. If the girls feel you will fit better somewhere else, they will cut you. And sometimes, it's not that they don't like you. They probably do like you a lot, since you made it this far. But they have to make cuts and there might be other PNMs that just fit more what the chapter needs this recruitment. That isn't a slight against you at all. If they have a lot of athletes, and you're an athlete, you might be lower on the list because they already have a lot of athletes and are looking to diversify the chapter some.

Is it REALLY true that my non-legacy houses have no idea I am a legacy unless me or somebody tells them?
If they do know (maybe based on social media) that I have a relative in a different house now, it seems it might matter to some houses that want to have higher "return" rates?

But this is not the best day to not connect. Today is big on finalizing thoughts about fit and priorities for tomorrow (including who really gets big love at pref parties).

@Q Please don't stress! Just rank houses in your order of preference. It will work out great! It sounds like you have lots of wonderful options!
