If you make it to pref with the house you're a legacy to, aren't they required at that point to put you on their bid list?

Every pnm who attends pref is on that house's bid list somewhere.

I don't know how every sorority treats legacies at pref. In my house, all legacies are on the 1st bid list so if they rank us #1, they will get a bid.

Is that how it works for zeta, tri delt, and kappa?

All the sororities I know anything about have to put a direct legacy at the top of their bid list is the legacy returns to pref

It is a national rule for Tri Delt to put legacies at the top of the bid list on pref night. But remember that you are only considered a legacy for Tri Delt if it is through your mother or your sister.

What if it is a mom legacy but for a different (not Bama) chapter?

Since it is a national rule for DDD to put all legacies that attend pref on their first bid list, it should not matter that your mom is a DDD alumnae of another chapter because you are still considered a legacy. Hope this helps!

This is not correct.

It is NOT a national rule for Tri Delta to put their legacies on the top of the first bid list if they attend a pref party. It used to be, but it is no longer that way. Tri Delta nationals gives each chapter "full discretion over how they treat legacies" (per the Tri Delta national website). Google "Delta Delta Delta legacy policy" and it will be one of the first links. You can also google "_____ legacy policy" for any other org and it should come up. Hope this helped!

So DDD only considers daughters and sisters of alumnae of their Bama chapter as legacies? Or are you saying that it's not a national rule to put legacies on the first bid list?

I was saying that it is not a national rule for Tri Delta to put legacies at the top of their bid list if they attend a pref party. They let the chapters decide if they want to do that or not, so our DDD chapter very well may do that, but it is not required by nationals.

You are a Tri Delta legacy if your mother, step-mother, sister, and/or step-sister is in initiated Tri Delta from ANY chapter in the united states that is in good standing with the organization.

And for anyone who is looking for this info about a different org - this is NOT the case for every org. I know for a fact that DG considers grandmothers and great-grandmothers as legacies too. These rules are certain for each organization. Google the org you are wondering about to see.

So if you make it to pref with the house you're a legacy to, and their rule is they have to put you on their bid list, then at that point could you only put down that house on your pref list and for sure get a bid?

I am a pnm and wondering about this too. My understanding from my rc is that I should still put down three, but not to worry because I will match with my top pick if that pick is the legacy house. but if there is a computer glitch or something, i would not want to be considered a "suicide" card.

If you make it to pref with your legacy there's no reason you shouldn't list all three. They are required to put you at the top and if you list them first you will get them.

In theory, yes. But there is no harm in listing all 3 houses and you should absolutely do so. I don't know the legacy policies of every house on campus so it's possible you could be a legacy at pref and not get a bid if you suicide. Not worth the heartache, even if there's only a .1% chance of that happening.

I attended the Tri Delta National Convention this year and they instructed us to put legacies (of any chapter) at the top of the bid list on pref night. I guess it could have changed since then but I highly doubt it.

I know it's an unbelieveable long shot, but just say quota was filled with legacies that ran over to the second list. You would still be ranked, so you need to put down a second house just in case you weren't on the first bid list. Don't jump all over me. I know it's not likely, but with at least three generations of legacies coming through, it could happen that they have 100 legacies.
