cut
by: PrefWhat is the likelihood of being cut by all 3 houses you pref
#3 by: ZERO
Zero chance of being cut by all 3 AS LONG AS you list all 3 on your pref card. You may have heard the term "maximize your options"- pref night is where it comes into play. Every single pnm who lists every pref party she attended on her pref card (whether it was 1, 2, or 3 houses) will definitely be matched to one of those houses no matter where she ranked on each house's bid list.
Here is how bid matching works:
1. If you are invited to Pref, you WILL be on that house's bid list. Houses do not cut after Pref. You may be the last girl on the 3rd bid list, but you're on it.
2. The computer system will look at each PNM's pref card. If you are on the 1st bid list of your #1 choice, you are bid matched to them. If you are on the 2nd or 3rd list for your #1 choice, the computer goes to your #2 choice and if you're on their #1 list, you match. Etc.
3. After all the PNM's have cycled through once, everyone who did not match goes through the computer again, starting with your 1st choice. Houses almost never get 100% of their 1st list, so now the computer keeps repeating the above process until quota is filled- ie, if your name appears on your #1 house's 2nd or 3rd bid list before they meet quota, you will still match to your #1.
4. Sometimes, all your pref houses meet quota before your name shows up on the list. This is where maximizing your options is SO important- if all 3 houses are full, you will match to YOUR #1 choice as a Quota Addition. You won't know you were a QA.
