wisdom for pnms

by:

Lovely PNMs: please remember as you open your cards tomorrow that if you are cut, it's not personal. Actually I should say when you are cut bc even the most amazing girls are cut from houses for various reasons. Yes rush is a mutually selective process, but that's only to a certain extent, especially with the stronger houses. Don't think of rush as American Idol, where the contestants are eliminated as their shortcomings become more apparent. In my house, we have to select a very limited number of girls each round. There are so many qualified, awesome girls rushing, but we realistically can't keep them all! I just want you all to understand what I didn't when I rushed-that a cut is by no means a reflection of your self-worth, and I hope you don't take it personally! In the comments I'll make a list of possible reasons why you were not invited back to a house. You'd be surprised! Anyway good luck this week, what's meant to be will be, and be yourselves bc you'll be the happiest these next few years when you end up in the home where you belong!

Possible reasons a PNM wasn't invited back:

-seemed uninterested
-no rec or information on her
-close ties with other houses
-we thought she'd be a better personality fit in another house and wouldn't be as happy in ours
-low GPA
-not very involved in highschool
-was disrespectful
-slipped under the radar (less common for instate girls)
-no in-house connections

Clearly there are various reasons a house's name won't be on your cards tomorrow, but know ya'll are superstars and it's not personal!

first it was meant to be a joke. Secondly, please do not deny the role that superficial judgements plays in rush. It insults all PNM's if you try to claim that actives and houses don't consider the physical features of a girl when making their decisions.

True! Look at the houses you have an resolve to have an open heart for each one. Choose a favorite if you must (and we know you will), but don't let yourself be devastated if you don't have them the next day. Cuts happen, so don't take it personally. Just choose a new favorite and go on. When you get to pref, list every house. Don't be one the "those" girls who feels like you won't fit in to a house. Out of hundreds of girls you definitely will be able to find girls who are like you. It is your attitude that will made the difference. If you go into recruitment with someone else's favorite houses as the only ones you're going to consider, you're going to be miserable. So have the same reaction whether you have all houses that are considered "tops" on here or "bottoms." As everyone has told you, all the houses are really good.

The "shallow girls" will cut for looks! Sorry but that's the truth...

It only takes one house to find your home. So if you experience some pretty severe cuts, don't get all depressed. Just go to the house or houses you have left and go with a joyful attitude. If you're all depressed you're not going to be your best at the houses you're at.

I totally agree with you, it is what you make it. You get the houses you got back, even if it is only a few for a reason... Those houses obviously see something in you, so be thankful and get to know them better this around; take advantage of every minute you get back with each other because you never know what your mind will be thinking by the time pref roles around.

even if you are cut from a house and you thought you had a great conversation with a girl, don't think of that girl as having been the one to cut you! During recruitment last year I spoke to a girl who I LOVED but another sister thought she might be a better fit in XYZ sorority. When I thought about it, I realized that my sister was right and the pNM ended up in XYZ sorority. Just trust that the actives know what we are doing and being cut isn't like on a game show! It has so much to do with finding the best home for YOU!

What if I had recs for all,a decent gpa, and am not obese and had great conversations with all but only have less than 6 houses left.

I think that is still fine. There are some super cute and nice girls in my rc that only have four or six. I did not get all my 12 either, but its all good and its all in God's hands.

To me ... It's better to get cut early so you can focus on houses that kept you on their list. You will see if you keep your mind open
