is there such a thing as too smart?
by: HelpI am really excited about rushing, but I don't know if my resume makes me look like a nerd or something undesirable. I'm really not bad looking, but I was on the math team, scholastic bowl, and engineering teams in high school. My math classes in high school were what college sophomores and juniors take (if they need a lot of math). Does this make me look weird?

Please don't ever be concerned about "looking weird" for pursuing academic interests. In the grand scheme of things, academics are much more important than what sorority you were in for four years in college. That being said, as long as you can fit in with a house when you're talking to them, being committed to school will definitely be seen as a positive.

That's great that you're really into academics! I know that is something my sorority values. However, I would be very careful when you talk like this. It almost kind of comes across like you think you're too smart for us--which you may not have meant this at all, but that is how it seemed to me. I know I was honestly surprised by how smart, well-rounded and accomplished all the women in my chapter are when I first joined. Sorority women are so much more than what the media portrays them. We have national merit scholars, fulbright scholars, and some of the smartest, most talented students at UA in our chapters--you will fit right in. Not everyone is super into academics, but don't think that if you are you will be considered "weird."

Wow that's awesome to hear! I was just concerned because I have always had trouble finding my "niche" so to speak. It was hard for me to find friends who loved their studies the way I did, but enjoyed other things like make up and shopping. The girls that I found liked the other things, did not understand my love of academics- probably a product of a smaller school. I am really hoping to find exactly what you described, it is one of the things I am looking forward to most. Thank you so much!
