looking for?
by: SumWhat would y'all say each house really is looking for this year? Like are some trying to add more oos than in past years, some trying really hard to increase grades, get sweeter girls, get more party girls, etc?

I'd say all houses look for certain things in girls (grades, involvement, character, family reputation, looks, personality). What separates the houses is the way they RANK these characteristics.
For example, one house may go--(grades, involvement, family)
while another house may go--(looks, involvement, grades, character)
and another may go--(family reputation, personality, grades)

chi omega (and many other chapters) score you using a numerical system and there are different catagories for each trait. Looks, personality, involvement, etc. So where you lack in other catagories, try to be as well rounded as possible. Once the individual sisters are done ranking, all of the scores are entered into a computer, which gives us our list of girls who are coming back. We then go through that list and decide if anyone who made the cut shouldnt have made the cut. For Pref, this list is essentially and A/B list. The girls at the top half are our first choice, but the bottom half (B) we still want. If a girl on our A list doesnt choose us, then girls from the B list move up. Youll never know if you were an A or a B though. This is how we do it, and how many other chapters on campus do it. No one wants to tell PNMs but I think it is useful for you to know that if you got cut it isnt because the whole chapter didnt like you, its because you didnt fit in the specific catagories that we were looking for that year.

What a sorority looks for every year CAN CHANGE! When a new class of sophomores does rush for the first time, sometimes they are hellbent on changing the reputation. And because there are usually more sophomores than seniors, they do have a large voice if they want things to change. So what a chapter has looked for in the past may be different from this year's new member class. If you like a house PAY ATTENTION TO CUES -- do they have pictures up from fraternity formals and swaps and does the girl rushing you mention them a lot... or do they talk a lot about their bible study? If you like the house where you get the party vibe, don't tell them about how you organized the sober club at your school, unless you want to be cut. Be prepared to ask them a lot of sincere questions, all sorority girls generally like to talk about themselves, and most people like good listeners. Never interrupt and never "one-up" an active with a story or your accomplishments, even if you think your story will let them know how good you fit in. Share, but don't be over eager or over the top.
