phi mu article
by: WowFor all you pnms who are "in love" with phi mu and their fakeness, please google "why my daughter will never be in a sorority" to read an article that an ALABAMA PHI MU wrote just about 3 years ago. And if anyone tries to comment saying "every house does those things" you're so wrong. Because if my sorority ever treated our members that way, no one would put up with it and everyone would drop. Good for that girl for taking a stand.

I'm in what some people consider a "bottom tier" sorority and even I feel like I have to defend phi mu here. The girl who wrote this article seems like she would've not enjoyed sorority life no matter what house she went. Sure most houses don't give out a large binder of rules (and I think that may have been an exaggeration and probably included things other than rules) but all of them have rules about attending things and explain to the new girls how people dress here. My sorority told us that most people usually don't wear denim shorts to class and that most will wear tshirts and norts but no one gets mad at a girl if she decides to dress cute one day. The part where she complains about not being "allowed" to go to a party before 10 just showed me that this girl likes to complain about things. The older girls probably just said "hey most people don't go to parties before 10" because they don't and they don't want you to feel awkward being the only ones there. So basically what I mean here is don't go off of one girls negative experience and write off a sorority. Greek life is what you make it and I promise it will be pretty easy to find your group of friends no matter where you go. And if rules aren't your thing just remember that freshman year is when they're the toughest on you and the rules will probably lessen once you're initiated.

I am a guy, so take this with a grain of salt. Phi Mu girls are usually pretty cool and are very well put together. They def maintain a standard of excellence in fit and finish. They may not have a bunch of natural beauties but they clean up and present very well. There are more fun sororities to hang with and there are better looking ones but Phi Mu is right up there for sure.

I'm in a "bottom tier" sorority and the only difference from my house and the article is that we don't get fined for events such as speakers on campus or voting. I know a girl who's in PM and she would dress up to class every now and again. I know girls in other sororities who do basically similar things in mine and according to the article, PM. None of it is really taboo, the girl probably wasn't meant to be a part of Greek life which is a very important thing. GOING GREEK IS NOT FOR EVERYONE. So if you think any of the things in the article is crazy, stupid, unnessecary, or "hazing" (even though it really isn't since nationals is down every chapters neck 24/7 cuz largest chapters in the country) then please reconsider going Greek because it simply might not be for you.

She seems very independent and capable of making her own decisions. She appears to be a strong woman and smart too, seeing what type of nurse she is. I don't see her as being an unhappy person at all. I think she didn't find the right house for herself. She made some valid points whether you want to admit it or not.
I would say 2/3s of the houses at BAMA are not like this. There is 1/3 that is.

It might be helpful to know that the houses that are considered top houses absolutely do have more rules. Maybe that's why they're top houses, idk. But I'm in a lower tier house and we still have rules. Just not as many. My freshman roomie was a Phi Mu and we used to laugh at the difference in the amount of rules her house had compared to mine. But she was okay with it and could laugh it off and go with the flow. If you can't do that, go for a lower house. After all, finding a house you love is the purpose of recruitment, not finding a house with the highest ranking on greekrank.

since you seem determined to keep this as the top article, OP, you really should tell us what house you're in. my guess? Can't be axo because they have rules. Must be zeta or theta. Since theta has a house, more likely Zta. Whichever house it is, calling you out for hatefulness. TBH, you are Regina George.

One more point to add. She pledged as a sophomore, and stayed in all three years. If I hated something that much, I wouldn't do that. Whoever cross rushes with PM seems desperate to keep this on the front page. Just saying...
