Because the rankings on here are, in general, buying into the notion that a house is better if it has more members who were in the "popular" crowd in their Alabama highschool. Theta has a lot more OOS actives than old row houses and they pay for it in rankings that are pushed by those promoting old row as "better" because of "tradition" (i.e., just the way "it is"). This is why you have to follow the advice that is posted on this site constantly that you need to not buy into the supposed rankings, which are stupid, for something as personal as what is the right fit for a pnm. Ranking sororities like people do on here is like ranking colors. Is blue better than red? Is green better than orange? Well--it depends on what YOU like. Right? So why listen to people that are forcing you to accept that blue is "top tier" and "red" is "middle tier" or whatever. Foolishness.

This is the same thing for all the bottom half of the houses. Well, maybe not A Phi because they have reputation problems, but the other houses are all just as good as the top half houses but they have more girls who are not from Alabama (some would even say this is a good thing :) or girls who are not from certain zip codes. That doesn't mean that they're not just as outstanding as the girls in the top half houses.

I disagree that people lump Theta and Gamma Phi together. I would say that I know many nice Gamma Phis and only one nice Theta. I think they're ranked low because they concentrate of girls who can help their grade average instead of girls who have good personalities. A Phi which is also low ranked concentrates on girls that are better looking (for a low house). But Gamma Phi and DZ get the nice girls with better personalities at least in my opinion.

how do you mean? not as many Alabama highschool girls that were considered "popular"? Other stuff on here shows them to be well respected, chill, diverse, easy going, social and involved. Sounds good to me.

But I am keeping an open mind on all and are working hard to keep the old row/new stuff "rankings" and "tiers" out of my mind. But it is a constant drone.

they are just as strong if not stronger than other houses. they have one of the best sisterhoods and the some of the nicest girls. they are very involved on campus and strive to get good grades and raise up strong women. i say that makes them a strong house.

Maybe they are liked because they don't have a bunch of debs from mobile, MB or Montgomery? Ever think of that?

Just in the last few minutes, every thread I've read is full of Theta actives, Theta moms, and Theta alumnae pouring on the love. I'm pretty much over them because this is pretty outrageous.

Agree on remark above re "top" houses recruitment and pledge classes end up being a reflection of highschool popularity in Alabama and other Old south areas. Does not mean they are not great houses. May give pnms an idea of what to expect and prepare mentally for.

Why do you care? If you are in a house you love, then give it a rest!

The obvious Theta blitz is just gauche as well as dishonest. We were all pnms at one time and it makes me sick when I see some house being so obvious about hauling out a propaganda machine right before recruitment. Trying to contact pnms is something that we're NOT SUPPOSED TO DO according to Panhellenic. It doesn't mean we don't love our own houses. It means we want the poor ignorant pnms to be able to make up their own minds uninfluenced by a bunch of lies.

In all honesty, by promoting themselves on here and responding to negative posts, Theta (and ADPi) are just doing the same thing Old Row sororities (especially Alpha Chi who is the master of self promotion) have been doing for a long time. I say good for them!

All of our houses are great...Old Row or New Row! It REALLY doesn’t matter.
