A "tea party" with ice water. Not that it's supposed to be a tea party, but the first day it's just short parties where you talk, so kinda like a tea party!

So is it just plain water and ice or is it actually tea with ice? If it's the latter, why is it called ice water teas and not just iced tea? Like what the rest of the country calls it?

Why does it matter so much to you? That should be the least of your worries right now.

The event you are going to is called a tea. It is not a party, it is a tea. But no tea will be served. It's just ice water. Tea is the type of event, ice water is what will be served.

Is it important to know if there's actual tea at ice water teas? No. But it's freaking Greek Rank, it's a place to ask questions, so stop being rude to PNMs who are equal parts excited and confused about rush. I'm from Texas and I never heard the term "ice water tea" before. We just have the term "iced tea" to refer to tea that has ice in it. At recruitment in different parts of the country, sororities can actually serve drinks with flavor in it, like actual tea, lemonade, cucumber water, etc. People come here from all over the country - open your minds a little and be helpful where you can.

Ice water tea could mean a type of water like tea made with water that came from ice (icebergs ice mountains)

It’s just called that. Most houses serve water the first day but there might be a couple who serve like juice or soda? Could be wrong and that might just be in the later rounds

Long ago, tea was often served mid-afternoon-in Britain it still is. Long ago, sororities first day of parties began in the afternoon, but they were only allowed to serve ice water, so these parties began to be called "ice water teas". The phrase stuck.
