Is it true that one person can block you by basically "black balling" you in recruitment if they don't like you, even though you know you have done nothing wrong to offend them. I know some girls from my high school, and have friends of friends they didn't like. Could this be a problem going thru recruitment?

Yes. In my house when we are going through and voting on girls each time we can stand up and say pros and cons about them, and trust me when I say that girls usually listen to the cons more than the pros. If I meet you and you come off rude or disinterested believe that I'll be sharing that with the rest of my chapter come voting time.

People like you really need to stop saying your sorority's behind the scenes strategies. Pnms should not know any of this going through. You're making every single sorority look bad by giving this information out.
Everything that a sorority does behind closed doors is confidential. Please stop giving it all away. No pnm should know ANYTHING about a "voting process"

Your sorority's membership process is secret! And should remain that way!

All sororities do pro con pro and yes, all pnms are talked about. She didn’t say the secrets of how they vote so chill.

Just as a note to all the pnms coming through who think that they are too good for the lower tier houses, and act accordingly when invited back, keep in mind that you never know who the active you are talking to is friends with. For all you know she could be rooming with a girl from your favorite sorority, and actives definitely talk after each day. Just some food for thought.

Can blackball you also. Aka a"non-reference". Pays to be nice to everyone - always. Too bad you can't ask the woman who used to run Tuscaloosa Civinettes. She's dead now but she put her daughter through rush at Bama and the girl had a no-rec from every mother who got told their girl wasn't "good enough" for Civinettes. Payback is hell.

Even the so-called "bottom" houses dropped her because of no-recs at their houses. This girl was GDI.

Is this a joke???? You must be a 60 year old woman because I know who you're talking about and they are my mothers age. Get over yourself.

No, not a joke. There are some royal b-i-t-c-h-e-s who come through every year that have been really nasty growing up because they are so 'important". This is merely brought as an example of one getting talked to in her own language. You know, those insignificant people who don't count, sometimes they can bring you down. And no, I'm not a 60 year old woman, just know the story, like a lot of people know it. :) :) :)

when you are going through college recruitment you are an adult. Tuscaloosa civinettes beats up and slanders little girls who are 13 or 14 years old and are going from 8th grade to freshman in high school.

If you're from bham and you have a bad rep just don't rush. A couple girls with bad reps rushed last year and just ended up in bottom houses they hated. If you think you've been black balled just don't try unless you are willing to keep an open mind.

Do the houses have goals for things like not taking more than x girls from Birmingham, or is it a level playing field. I am from Birmingham and fear that it is actually harder on local girls because there are so many.

No house wants a clique of girls who all went to high school together and can't wait for 4 more years of highschool. Different high schools, different friend groups, different rec writers and different friends in the houses all make a difference. Don't come in like you're part of a gang that all expect bids from a certain house.

Honestly it all depends on the house politics. Black balling means that one bad vote will get you eliminated. All houses have their system, but it takes more than one 'black ball' for sure. It very much depends on the influence that a member has and how she sways others. There are some sisters in my house whose judgement and social skills I don't respect in the least. If she doesn't like a pnm then I'm going to want to bring her back, if she loves a pnm then I'm going to want to vote her out. My friend group and others feel the same. You have no control over this so my advice is to smile and be confident and prove to the sisters you talk to that you are better than whatever the one who doesn't like you says.
