Letters of recommendation are forms about you that sorority alumni fill out and send in to the U of Alabama chapter of their particular sorority, either recommending you for their chapter or saying that they don't recommend you for their chapter.
Example - Sally May, your neighbor, was a Pi Beta Phi at Ole Miss. You go next door and ask her if she would mind writing you a recommendation for Pi Beta Phi at Alabama. If she says yes, then you send her your resume (different than one for a job application - sorority resumes are their own kind. Google an example), and a picture of you (not a selfie, but not a prom or beauty pageant pic - just a natural, clear, good picture of just you. You should look very similar to how you will look during recruitment). Those are the 2 things that you absolutely need to give her, but I would also give her a manilla folder that already has the U of Alabama Pi Beta Phi address written on it with the correct postage on it so she doesn't have to do that herself since she's doing you a favor, along with a thank you note from you saying how grateful you are that they are writing you a rec. She will then fill out the form that she already has, and she will send it in herself. Once you give her your rec packet with the things she needs, she will take it from there. You don't have to do anything else for your Pi Beta Phi rec.

You 100% need at least one rec for each of the chapters on our campus. More than 1 per chapter isn't necessary, but a lot of PNMs will have multiple rec letters. If you get more than 1, then they have to be written from different people. Rec letters for certain sororities have to be written by alumni that were in that particular sorority.
Example - A Phi Mu alumni can't write you a recommendation for Kappa Kappa Gamma. She can only write you a recommendation for Phi Mu.
Finding ladies to write you recommendations and getting all your packets together and to these ladies takes a lot of hard work, but it isn't impossible. You need to ask everyone in your family if they were in a sorority and if they weren't, then if they know someone who was. Then ask your neighbors, your teachers, your coaches, your friend's parents, ladies at your church, etc. You will find people. There are greeks all around you. If you do all of these things and are still in need of a few recs, then contact your local Panhellenic Alumni Association. To find one, just google "(your city) Panhellenic Alumni Association" and they probably have a website.
