Helping you understand how it works
by: Pref Ranks
The simple explanation is that if you attend 2 pref parties and put both on your MRABA, you will receive a bid from one of those two. This is the one time the PNM has some power in the process, because the computer will ALWAYS try to match the PNM’s 1st choice. As long as your name appears on the list before your number one choice reaches their quota number, you will be a new member there. If, however, your #1 choice reaches quota before your name comes up, the computer will try to match you with your #2 choice. If your name appears on their list before they reach quota, then you will receive a bid from #2. If they both reach quota before you name comes up on either list, you will be a quota addition to either #1 or #2.
You may hear rumors that a PNM got her #2 choice because she was listed higher on their list. That is NOT how if works. To reiterate: You will only receive a bid from your #2 if your #1 fills to quota before they reach your name. The computer tries to match you to your #1 choice.
If you SIP( only list one of your two choices) and don’t match, you are not eligible to be a quota addition.
If you just have one pref party to attend and you list them on your MRABA, you will have a bid from them.

No, do not do that. You very well may get your second choice anyway if you are not high enough on either house’s list. Being noncommittal and saying you love both houses you have left while at your second choice house is the diplomatic way to approach that. They will get it but they will not know for sure if you run home to them anyway that you aren’t where you want to be. Most girls who land at their 2nd choice will be fine as long as they don’t announce at pref they don’t want to be there or let their choices slip to other PNMs who might talk. Do not tell other PNMs what order you listed at pref!
