You could see it last year. The Pres roommates where everyone went Phi Mu and Zeta. In some cases the Phi Mu person seemed really happy. In others you could tell someone was second guessing going Phi Mu vs Zeta. Not necessarily because of the sorority, but because all the people they hang out with are Zetas.
I'm not saying it is right or wrong, I'm just saying that I saw the thought pattern the OP is talking about last year for sure.

They are anything but chill. Fakest house full of “pick me!” girls. You can tell they were all second tier in high school. Never the cheerleader, didn’t win the vote to get on homecoming court, hot guys always went for the first tier girls and they’re still not over it.
So they try to become TikTok famous and think they’ll come to Bama and start fresh and actually be something special here. They get dropped by all of Old Row and half of New Row and end up in Zeta.
They quickly realize Zeta’s sisterhood is toxic and fake and drop out either after freshman year or during sophomore. Look at the pics of Zeta’s senior class bar crawl. There’s like 25 girls left out of 140.
If that’s what you want and you’re willing to spend $50,000 for it, then definitely pledge Zeta.
But there are SO MANY better houses here. Better reputations, better sisterhoods, better social lives, better opportunities on campus, better networking for the future, better bonds, better total sorority experience, better everything.
Don’t sell yourself short.
