How do we go from sisterhood to 2 on pref?

by: Pnm

Does it matter how we rank the houses right before pref? What if more than two houses give u a bid, then does it take into account the pnms ranking?

Up until bid day, you are receiving invitations to return to x number of sororities. You get a bid, an invitation to become a member of a sorority-only one-on bid day.

Ranking the sororities is important everyday, but because you can only attend a maximum of two pref parties it is important to pick the two where you feel you would fit in the best.

No it doesn’t matter how you rank houses before pref round. Your very own ranking after attending pref round will be the first moment when you will have a choice.

Your rankings after sisterhood are used the same way as in the other rounds to determine which two houses you will pref.

You will only get one bid and it will come from one of your two pref houses. This is not like fraternity rush where rushees can get multiple bids and choose one.

If you attend a sorority's pref, you are on their ranked bid list somewhere, and your rankings of them are given more importance in bid matching than in the other rounds. You are guaranteed a bid to one of your two pref houses if you rank both of them.

For bid matching, you will rank your pref houses #1 and #2. The algorithm starts at the top of a sorority's ranked bid list and tries to match with the pnm's who put them as #1. If you are high enough on your #1's house ranked bid list to match with them before they reach quota you will get that bid. If not, and they reach quota before they get to you, the algorithm will then try to place you with your #2 in the same way. If you aren't high enough on their list to match with them either, you are guaranteed a bid to either house even if it puts a house over quota. The algorithm will place you at one of the two by taking into account your ranks of the two sororities, your place on their bid list, and the membership sizes of the two houses.

If you are invited to two pref houses and only put one down on your card, and you don't match with that house before they reach quota, you will not get a bid at all. Think carefully about this when you rank after pref.

If you are only invited to one house for pref and you attend and put them on your card, you are getting that bid.

I also know a couple of cases in my house and some in others that a PNM has been ranked high on the list after pref and they ranked my house or the house #1 but the PNM did not get a bid for that house for some reason.

Maybe the girls were not telling the truth but the girls were genuinely upset for not getting my house or the house they ranked first.

Just know that if you are invited to a pref round that means the house can see you as one of their sisters.

Yeah, what would have happened is that they may have been highly ranked but not high enough to match before quota was reached. It's a hard cut off. Unless you saw with your own eyes the final ranked bid list that was submitted, which really only the recruitment chairman sees, and could compare their placement with quota, you don't really know if they made the cut off. And yes, maybe they were not telling the truth about their ranks, it happens.

But how do you get narrowed down to two houses so harshly? What if multiple houses after sister hood decide they want to take you to pref? Then does it matter how you ranked the houses?

After sisterhood you could have several invitations for pref. Sisterhood is really important for getting to know the houses on a deeper than surface level and honing in on what you want. You have to pick two houses where you can see yourself being happy.

Ohhh ok wait so we choose 2 who we go to for pref if we get several invites? Do most people get more than two invites and have to choose?

The computer chooses for you at every round based on the ranks that you submit and the invitations that sororities submit, and then generates your schedule for you each round. You may attend up to 12 houses for philanthropy, 7 for sisterhood, and 2 for pref. But your schedule is driven by the sororities, and if they choose not to invite you back then they are eliminated from your schedule, no matter how you ranked them. And sororities that you ranked low that do invite you back will return your schedule, so as to give you as many houses to go to as possible. Not many pnm's get a full schedule to go to the max allowed in a round. Your ranks will not matter unless more sororities invite you back than the max allowed, so that's when the computer drops your lowest ranked houses from your schedule for you. Otherwise, the sororities do the choosing.

Ya but what if multiple sororities decide they want u back for pref after sisterhood? Then do ur rankings matter? Or does each sorority rank u after sisterhood (like pref) and that’s how it’s narrowed down to two. I’m just confused because what if more than 2 houses want u back for pref, how does the computer decide which.

Your ranks determine which houses you go back to if more houses want to invite you back than you can attend. This is the way it works for every round, not just for the 2 pref houses. You will never see actual invitations to choose from, the computer does it all and you get a schedule.
