A nervous wreck about recruitment
by: Nervous pnmI feel like Im just average and I should of picked a different school. Between my grandmother going here, hearing stories my whole life, my best friend coming here too and tbh the Bama rush craze. Here is the thing, my GPA is only 3.44, Im definitely cute but not beautiful and besides my extensive community service I dont stand out at all. I just want to be in a house. Any house. What if I did all of this and get dropped? Like it would all be for nothing.

You will be okay I promise. You said any house and thats the right idea! My best advice for you is to work on your confidence and DO NOT TRY TO HAVE THE SAME RUSH EXPERIENCE AS YOUR FRIEND. And guess what, even if you do get dropped Alabama is an amazing school. I am a senior this year and to be honest some of my best memories are with the other orgs Im involved with. I love my house but there is so much more than greek life. Be your best self and I promise you 99.99% will get a bid.

If you can hold a small talk conversation, be yourself, do your hair and makeup, and wear a cute outfit you are comfortable in, you are going to get a bid. All the houses are fantastic here and every house has all kind of girls in it in all shapes, sizes, interests, etc. No house is full of geniuses that are super models no matter how hard some houses try to tell you that on GR. There are weird and awkward looking girls in the alleged top houses here and there are super cute and smart girls in the alleged bottom houses here.
My bestie in my house had a 3.4 and is cute but not a supermodel. MY GPA was higher but I'm not a super model. We are happy in our house.
PLEASE disregard the bitter Active, competitive moms with too much time on their hands, and the weird trolls on GR. Their comments are not reality.
I hope you have a great week!

I promise you will get a bid somewhere. You sound very open minded about this process which is the best way to approach it. Before you go into rush in a couple of weeks, think about the things that you like BEST about yourself. You mention community service and that's great - what other things do you enjoy? Spending time with family? Cooking? Whatever it is you are passionate about, talk about it during rush. It will help you build connections with the houses and help you find a great fit.
95% of girls going through rush get a bid. The 5% that don't usually drop out during sisterhood or pref because they were cut by the houses they really wanted. Some girls drop as soon as they get cut places because of their grades.
If being Greek is a priority for you over exactly what house you get in, you're likely going to have a good experience because you're coming at it with an open mind.

I am about to cry with all the sweet comments. Thank you, thank you. Im embarrassed to share this with my friends. They are all so confident and excited. I do have some hobbies that Im passionate about. Also the majority of my service work is about something that means the world to me.

First time someone has had a good experience on GR?!? Hahaha, in all seriousness, I think you will have a great rush and I hope you come back to this thread and let me know where you ran home to.
(PS: read the post someone made where she wrote "guess what house I'm in based on my experience." It's a good reminder that the early days of greek life, esp first semester can be hard. You'll find your place. You'll get there. We all did!)
