Can I be dropped before any of the houses meet me

by:

I’m guessing we get our schedules on convocation? Do most girls get all houses? What would be the main reason someone didn’t?

The first drops are based on GPA

Yes, there are first round cuts by the 17 sororities before any of them meet pnm's in person. Most pnm's will not get 12 houses back for philanthropy or 7 for sisterhood. The first round cuts are heaviest, and the main reason for a lot of cuts, especially in the strongest recruiting houses, is grades. A few houses will care equally about grades and looks/social media, and a couple only care about looks/social media with grades a low priority. The stronger recruiting chapters must release the most pnm's, so be prepared for cuts from some of your very favorite houses and remember that it's not personal, it's all about numbers. Please don't focus on the cuts, give the houses that invite you back your very best because they really want you, and don't make decisions based on emotions. Talk to your Rho Chi, she is there to help.

You meet with your Rho Chi group and watch videos made by all the houses. You will then rank the houses (your rank is meaningless at this point). The following morning you will meet up with your group and then get a list of invitations. You WILL be released from many houses that morning prior to anyone meeting you or you even entering inside their house. Its harsh but with 2,500 PNMs going through the process, it's what has to happen. Mentally prepare yourself.

I got 10 houses back for philanthropy (and 6 back for sisterhood), a handful of PNMs in my group had the full 12 for philanthropy but many had 7 or less. One girl had 2 after philanthropy and she had a total breakdown. It varies and everyone tries to say that they had a full card all the way through. Know that a full card at each round is not the norm and many are just flat out lying. The girl that had 2 back for philanthropy got a bid and seems very happy in her houses based on her social media. Be strong and open minded!

Why do they have us rank the houses if it’s meaningless I’m so confused

To say that your ranks are meaningless is a bit of an exaggeration. The sororities decide who to ask back or release, but no one can tell how each house is going to decide on every single pnm, and therefore no one can tell how any pnm's ranks will matter for HEr. Five houses must drop from a pnm's schedule for philanthropy, another five for sisterhood, and five more for prefs. A lot of times it does not go the pnm's way but sometimes it DOES, and that can't be determined without both the sororities and the pnm's ranks being compared. Don't count yourself out prematurely from any sorority.

I'm from OOR and wanted to give my experience to hopefully help settle your nerves.

Note: I had excellent grades (over a 4.0 weighted) and strong involvement in high school. I have a personal connection to the issue of domestic violence, and it's very important to me. (I'll explain that later) I don't want to say too much else.

I was immediately cut from XO, Phi Mu, Zeta, ADPi, KD, AGD and DZ. I was thrilled with what I got back. For sisterhood I went KKG, AXO, DG, Theta, APhi, PiPhi and DDD.

I was surprised at some of the houses that cut me early (and that cut me after philanthropy) but I was also surprised at some of the houses that kept me.

The reason I brought up my interest in domestic violence, is that issue is the primary philanthropy for AXO, one of the OR houses that invited me back. I think that interest was important to them. So if you have somewhere you have been volunteering, make sure you talk about it!

Don't sweat it too much.

That doesn't matter. You can't go by anyone else's pref combination.

I don't want to share where I went for pref, but I went to one OR and one NR house. I loved them both!

Honestly had a great experience everywhere I went for sisterhood. The first two rounds of rush are so hectic and quick, sisterhood gave me much more of a sense of where I would fit in.
