Can someone explain how the rush algorithm works?

by: Pnm

How can a house “loose” a girl to another house? I get we rank the houses after each round. Do they rank us too or just simply drop or keep? If I keep ranking a house I dislike last will that mean I won’t get them back? Or do our ranks not matter that much. Just wondering how much say us pnms have in the process because I’ve heard we have little to none, but if that’s the case why do we rank houses after each round? And then at preference does our ranking really matter? Do the houses rank the girls for only pref?

You can rank a house dead last, and they'll only stay off your list if the houses that you ranked higher ask you back. If the houses that you did like drop you, then you'll find houses that you'd ranked lower on your card.
So you do have a say, but not as much as the houses do.
If a house drops you, you'll never see them on your card again.
You don't drop houses, you just rank them lower, so it's possible that you'll see them again if you top houses drop you

A PNM’s rankings do not matter until pref UNLESS they get over the maximum amount of invites back to whatever round (which is extremely rare). Each chapter has a different way to score PNMs, creating a “ranking”. These rankings are sent in and the algorithm, RFM, spits them out with invite lists for the next round. PNM rankings only really carry weight after pref - the algorithm goes down a chapter’s ranking list and selects x number of girls who also ranked that chapter as their number one. Those girls are removed from their #2 chapter’s list. It continues to go down placing girls who ranked them 1 on the final bid list. Then it may have to go back and select girls who selected them as #2 but weren’t high enough on their #1s final list to make it, etc etc

This is why all of these rankings are stupid . PNMs do not choose a house , they choose you
You only get a say after pref when you pick your final house and even then it can go the other way . Ranking houses, tearing down other houses only creates bad experiences for the new members . All houses at Bama at great

Your rankings at every round will matter for you if you are one of the pnm's who gets back more invitations than the maximum allowed for that round. In that case your lowest ranked house(s) would drop from your schedule. That is not what the majority of pnm's should expect because most pnm's will experience releases. When you are released from houses, those are eliminated from your list and all your other houses bump up in rank, in order, to give you the most possible houses at every round. That's why you will see houses that weren't your favorite back on your schedule. Give them a chance.

Keep in mind: The houses do not know how pnm's rank them and pnm's don't know how the houses rank them, so none of that is a consideration for either. Go back to your low ranked houses with a smile on your face because they want you there and they don't know how you ranked them. And don't assume that being released from a house was personal, and means that they didn't like you or found you unworthy - it was only about the numbers.

Pnm's rankings have far more weight after pref during bid matching because if you attend a house's pref you are on their bid list somewhere. The process matches a house's ranked bid list, in order, with all pnm's who put that house at #1 until they reach quota. Pnm's who fall below the quota line, not matching with their #1, will then be in consideration for their #2 house, and if they don't match with that one before it reaches quota, they will be placed at either house as a quota addition.

Under release figure methodology, the most popular chapters (those rated highest by the most PNMs the previous year) have to release a greater number of PNMs each round. Thus, if you fall in love with Chapter Alpha that is amazing at recruiting…so did, like, 1999 other PNMs. And they have to release a higher number, so your chances of getting invited back are actually smaller than they would be for a chapter that might not be as great at recruiting.

This isn’t necessarily meant to stress out PNMs…it’s just intended to drive home two messages- one, sororities are making the majority of decisions of who is selecting who in recruitment. Two…don’t take it personally when a group that you really liked or really felt like you connected with doesn’t invite you back. It could just be a numbers game. Keep going back to the groups on your list and giving them a chance.

Apparently the book writer troll loves recruitment.

While a lot above is true - what is also true is that real people and not computers are in charge and the real people do everything they can to place the most women.

Good luck to everyone. Have fun!
