Can someone please explain snap bidding
by: ?
I know it's rare but what circumstances does it happen? Day you drop out after any round including pref can you get a snap bid? What if you are released? What if you didn't even go through recruitment but know some girls?
Someone just explain it

Snap bids can only be extended if a house does not make quota. Quota is roughly the number of PNM’s invited to 1+ Pref party divided by the number of houses on campus. To explain it simply, if quota is 150 and a sorority only gets 148 new members during bid matching, then they can “snap” up 2 more new members to reach quota.
Snap bids can ONLY go out between bid matching & bid opening. Once bids are open & bid day starts, it’s too late to snap.
Usually snaps go to PNM’s who made it very far into rush with the chapter snapping & either she withdrew or got totally released the morning of rush or she suicided at Pref and didn’t get a bid.
There are MANY, MANY years where chapters need to snap & all make quota which is why PNM’s should not consider snap bids a rush strategy. Your best chance of going Greek is always the chapters still inviting you back.

I had 4 houses for sisterhood. The houses I ranked 3rd and 4th invited me for pref. I withdrew after the parties. Didn't feel any real connection at all. I felt sorry for my self all day lol. Bid day around 630 am I got a call from my 2nd ranked house offering me a bid. That's all I know about it. So I went and opened my bid card with everyone else, ran to my house with everyone else. Only a few people in my rho chi group, my roommates and very few other people knew I withdrew/where I went for pref. Honestly no one really ever brought it up and no one in my PC talked about being "snapped" tho I know I wasn't the only one.
It absolutely isn't a rush strategy. I was on the fence about going Greek to begin with. A know a girl who basically did the same thing but didn't get a snap and complained all year about being bored and missing out. If you really want to be in a sorority just join whichever one invites you to join.

This is the reality. For very few girls it works out. It’s definitely nothing to count on.
