Last year i only got 6 back, and suicide bid and i got a bid from the house i loved! Just stay open minded and don’t worry until you have to, 4 houses is more than enough !!!

your gpa, which is close to under a 3.4, was probably a big part of it. cuts in the first round have a lot to do with it. if you have any houses you like left, stick with it!!

Okay but she could have gone to a prep school with really hard classes. This is why the GOA scale is stupid.

plenty of private school kids go to Bama? That argument could also be used for people who apply to get into college. Are you gonna go stomp your feet at Stanford because you went to a “more challenging school” but had a lower gpa and didn’t get in?

I’m replying to dumb rednecks. IN MY OPINION high school is so much easier than college. as a person who went to prep school - in the north actually - but still ap classes and all that

This is Alabama rush, a lot of PNM’s only have a few houses left after Open House. Could have been GPA, lack of recs, who knows. It’s not personal if you were cut this early, there was some basic membership criteria like GPA that you - and hundreds of other PNM’s - didn’t meet for most houses.

Good news is that it only takes 1. Treat these 4 houses as if they are the only ones on campus. Hope you get your happy ending & a bid!

This^^^ it only takes one and at the end of the day you’ll be in one house. Keep on with the houses you still have and make sure they know you’re happy to be there. Good luck!

Did you get two recs to every house? Recs are crucial. If you don’t have recs you risk being cut. If you don’t have recs AND you have a lower GPA than most, you will definitely be cut.

I submitted an average GPA bc I took almost all APs in HS and my northern HS has unweighted GPAs. Got a 5 or 4 on all my AP exams. But I also only got asked back to 4 houses. I’m not from the South and don’t know any girls in any houses. Not sure if it’s that or grades on why I got cut so early. I’m cute, but don’t maintain a big public social media presence. I had no idea I would get cut by so many without actually meeting any sisters.

Like someone else said. It’s not personal at this stage. Very likely lack of connections and gpa but unfortunately you’ll never know for sure. The houses have to do these big cuts early and impersonally ; there’s no way to personally meet and vet almost 3k girls.

Recruitment is a huge hassle here. How are we supposed to whittle down 2500 PNMs to a class of 100-125 over 4 rounds?

I know it hurts & it seems so unfair to be cut without really meeting any actives in person.

The really competitive chapters sometimes have to cut 700, 800, 1000, or more PNM’s after Open House because the stats show that almost 100% of PNM’s rank them high & want to return. In order to give every chapter a chance to thrive - which is why Bama’s sorority system is SOO strong & sought after, every chapter IS thriving! - the most competitive chapters have to cut hard at the beginning.

It’s tough because they mostly cut for basic membership criteria stuff this early - like GPA, recs, and unfortunately not your personality or your potential to be an amazing member.

BUT on the flip side, it allows PNM’s to spend more time with chapters who are interested in you and not get your hopes up. And before anyone has this thought….EVERY SINGLE CHAPTER HERE CUTS. Everyone of them has high standards. Less competitive chapters are still cutting 300, 400, ++ PNM’s after Open House. Be GLAD chapters are interested in knowing your more!!

You will be fine. Focus on the 4 you have. For the PNMs that have full cards, they will experience deep cuts after second rounds. The advantage you have is that you know which houses to focus on. If you put your best foot forward you will get a bid. Despite all the mean trolls and alumni moms on here, ALL houses here are great. We don't hate each other. You will have a great time going to football tailgates, games, swaps, darties, homecoming events, semi-formals and formals in ALL of the houses. Find the house that has your future best friends in it. You will be a part of a pledge class of about 140 girls, you can find 10 friends in any of those classes.

Also, if you really like a house, let them know in a non-aggressive way. Like, tell them that you have really liked all the girls you met and how you hope that you get to meet more and find out more about the house. Houses want to know who is really interested in becoming a sister.

From experience, several of the top tier, well established sorrorities already have their bid lists before rush even starts. It's a harsh reality, but it also means you shouldn't take any of this personally. Other great news is that you are rushing at Alabama, where every sorority is amazing!!! You will meet great girls at every house. Good luck! RTR

Do good recs help a girl make it on the pre-rush list? A 4.0 GPA? How I look on social media? Or do most chapters start with a list of friends from high school and fill in from there? I’m looking at Bama for college next year but I’m OOS/OOR, don’t know anyone in a sorority, and barely have a social media presence because it doesn’t interest me.

There are several houses on campus that you will have NO chance of joining because you & your mother / grandmother are not from a small handful of neighborhoods/ schools in the south and you are not a chapter legacy. But you prob wouldn’t want to be in those chapters because you won’t fit into that insular world. Just expect that coming in.

The majority of PNM’s are from OOS and a good chunk are OOR. And nearly all of them find a sorority home! Work on rounding out that resume to tell a story of who you are & what your values are…keep your grades UP and do not get “senioritis”. A 3.75 unweighted high school GPA should clear any cutoffs.

Start thinking NOW about recs. Find at least 1 for every house, from women who know you or your family well.

Which chapters are the insular ones that OOS girls have no chance at?

if you lose your top house don’t drop, trust the process and be open with your rho chi and Ask for advise, she will help you. Good luck, stay positive. I literally sent this same thing to my
daughter last year around this same time and she is so happy with her sorority.
