Words of wisdom from an alum - PNMs please read
by: Wisdom
Pleas trust me with this advice I’m about to give you.
1. Do not pick your houses based on social media clout. The houses that are most active on social are not the ones with the best sisterhood. They are not the ones most involved on campus and they are not the ones that are throwing or are invited to the best parties. They are not the ones with connections to help get you into honor societies for your major or network with others, which will benefit you most in the future. They are not the personality type that will be there for you at 3 am when your boyfriend breaks up with you, when you need someone to take you to the ER, or when you’re really homesick and need someone to talk to.
2. Do not go in with any pre-conceived notions of who are the top, middle and bottom houses. Go in with an open mind and see for yourself where you feel like you belong. You will not know it during philanthropy round. You will have a sense of it during sisterhood and by pref you will know for sure.
3. Do not let your family members or hometown persuade you into pledging a house you don’t feel is the right fit. I cannot stress this enough. I had several pledge sisters that pledged because of outside pressure and regretted it before the first week was over. Do not let this be you. If you can’t see yourself in that house, hanging with those girls every day it’s not the house for you. If you can’t see yourself walking into that house on a random Tues morning unshowered with no makeup and not getting dirty looks from the actives, that is not the house for you.
3. Pick the house that feels most comfortable to YOU! It’s okay for roommates to pledge different houses. It’s okay to be a legacy, a double legacy or even a triple legacy and pledge a different house.
4. If you fall in love with a house and they cut you, I promise there is another house that is a better fit for you. Do not get discouraged and most importantly do not drop out of rush because your top house(s) didn’t invite you back.
I’ve been there, I’ve been through it and this is the advice I wish someone had given me.

Older alum here. I hope each girl is able to see through the “glamour” of rush and into what each each house is really about and what they stand for. I wish each girl the very best and hope everyone runs home to their favorite house next Sunday with big smiles on their faces.
Life is about to get a whole lot more fun! New doors are opening all around you - open each one and see where they lead you!
Pan love to all.
