question about pref round

by: question

Is it possible for both houses you pref to give you a bid? Or is it first come first serve? How does this work

im pretty sure if both give you a bid then whoever you ranked as your #1 will “win” your bid

You will only receive one bid. It works like this: You rank your pref houses 1 & 2 and the houses will also rank all their pref pnm's. The bid matching algorithm starts at the top of a sorority's ranked list and goes down in order, matching with the pnm's who put that house as 1. If needed, the algorithm will then go through again and match with pnm's who put them at 2. Regardless, the matching process for each house ends at whatever point they reach Quota. If you are high enough on your 1 house's list to match with them before they reach Quota, then you will get that bid. If not, then the algorithm will try to match you with your 2 house. If you don't match with them either before they reach Quota, then you will be matched with either house as a Quota Addition. The algorithm tries to match Quota Additions with their 1 house whenever possible, but also takes into account her place on that bid list and the total number of Quota Additions a house would receive. This is how pnm's are guaranteed a bid if they rank both their pref houses on their card, or just the one if that's all they have at pref (having only one house at pref and putting them on the card is an easy, stress-free night because that bid is guaranteed!) A pnm who only puts down one of her two pref houses is not guaranteed a bid, because if she doesn't match with that one house before they reach Quota, then she's out of the process entirely, and not eligible to be a Quota Addition.
