Competitiveness/ Choice?
by: ummHow competitive is rush at Alabama really? As a PNM do I get any choice in where I go or do my rankings not matter at all?

Rush 2022 is going to be competitive. In the past couple of years, there has been about 2300-2400 girls going through recruitment with ~2100 bids given out (each sorority having a PC of 125-140). This year, Panhellenic estimates about 3000 girls will go through rush. The problem is there still will only be ~2100 bids given out since sororities can’t support pc classes bigger than 140 logistic wise. That means about 1/3 girls will get dropped this upcoming rush.
To answer you question , you have some influence of where you go. A lot of old row sororities already have there bid list before rush even begins. So, if you don’t catch their eye before rush, you don’t really have a chance of being competitive for them. However, not all house work this way and your ranking to them depends on how the members like you at each party and how good y’all’s conversation is. Sororities have the final say in who gets invited back to the next round, but if you get invited back to more than the max number of houses you can have per round, then how you ranked the sororities matter.

Yes, it is very competitive. Hopefully your social media has been public. Each sorority has teams if girls (separated according to region), that has been researching = following girls. They do have lists already. Once you go thru recruitment, you will see how it goes. You rank them and they rank you. Good luck!

The sororities do not know your ranks of them, so how much you like them is not a consideration in their decisions of who to invite back. As commented above, your ranks only come into consideration if you receive more invitations than your schedule will allow, so your lower ranked house(s) drop off your schedule. This is not what happens to most PNM's though, so be prepared for cuts and to return to your lower ranked houses because the algorithm will give you as many houses as is possible for you each round. And please remember that each sorority has a number that they can invite back each round and can't exceed it, so if you are released by a house it doesn't mean they didn't like you or think there's something wrong with you! Don't take it personally. Everything is purely a numbers game - don't take cuts personally and keep going and putting on your best for each house you have left. Don't make an emotional decision to drop. Remember, it only takes one!

To answer "so's" question - the fact that you have girls from various houses following you, you are on their radar. Don't worry too much. Just try to relax and be yourself. They will.match you up.with other girls of similar interests or regions when going to the houses.
