letter from an active to pnms
by: active
hi. coming from an active, these are things y'all can do to prepare for rush as of rn
-start asking around for rec letters. ask friends, friends mom's, mom's friends, coworkers, teachers, people at your church, post on social media, ask anyone you know. certain houses take both alumnae and actives from another school and others are alumnae only. be sure you know which house is which. when a woman says she can write a letter for you, email (most likely--physical packets aren't common anymore but you do you) her a "packet" that has resume, headshot, transcript, and a cover letter saying thank you and giving directions how to submit it.
-start thinking of outfits. look at the greek chic for examples or if you know an active, most of me and my friends took pics of our outfits throughout the week. look at bamarush Tok too. if you need to start saving up for a dress or two, go for it but no pressure. wear what you feel most comfortable and confident in. the actives don't care what you are wearing as long as it fits the tone. ie--don't show up in a sports bra and Lulu shorts, but if you wear a nice dress for sisterhood and pref and cute shorts or a skirt on philanthropy, you're good to go. also start considering if you have a bag to carry your stuff in. you'll have your phone, a water, greek chic and pen, makeup to touch up, mini fan, towel or something to sit on outside, change of shoes, and anything else that might strike your fancy but I would say those are the bare minimum necessities. actives don't see bags so bring something comfortable that holds everything and that you can spot easily (maybe reconsider the longchamp). I personally used a thermal tote (like a picnic lunch bag or something) and it kept my water ice cold which was a must)
-be nice!!! to actives, to fellow pnms, to everyone! pnms talk to actives who talk to other actives. if you are rude, word will spread. also, no need to make enemies before you even get here. those girls could be your sisters. not worth the time or the effort, just be nice.
-clean up your socials! houses have teams of girls sent out to look at your instagrams, vscos, tiktoks, anything to make sure that you are not posting things that would be standards risks--ie, alcohol, red cups, any illegal substances, swearing, flipping off the camera, anything you think is "political" but violates human rights. if your grandma/employer/kindergarten teacher shouldn't see it, we shouldn't either. yes, teams have already been looking into girls but if we didn't catch you yet then take the stuff down while you can!
