letters of rec?
by: pnmim from the north and need rec letters! where do i get them? and can actives from other schools write them for me?

Nationals not requiring recs doesn't mean they have been 'banned' for crying out loud. Recs are still definitely a thing, but now chapters can exercise more control of their membership selection under their national dictates. For example, Phi Mu nationals no longer requires recs, and Bama Phi Mu has decided they won't even accept them now, but that doesn't prevent another Phi Mu chapter from still accepting recs. Same goes for legacy policies; nationals aren't requiring preferential treatment but chapters can still offer it if they decide to.

i'm also from the north but many of my family members were in greek life so i had rec letters for all but two houses going into rush. with that being said, i don't think letters matter so much anymore because i ended up in one of the two houses that i didn't have a letter for!

Reach out to local alumni groups. Also I’ll say this: for my chapter anyone that is initiated is required to have a rec letter. However, we find them or write them ourselves for girls who don’t get one before rush. I really wouldn’t stress too much because if a chapter wants you they’ll make sure you’re there

a few sororities have stopped accepting them but I’m pretty sure only 1 or two have. Definitely need them for the rest
