how can sigma delta tau possibly do formal recruitment with no house on the row and 38 members total. they should have left campus years ago and then recolonized. they cant compete with houses with 300+ girls. THEY HAVE 38 MEMBERS ITS JUST NOT POSSIBLE

I didn't say it was going to happen next year. I said that the plan is for them to move towards that in the next few years. That is why they had a more active role in formal recruitment than they have in the past. Why bring a new group on campus when one group (that has a long history at UA and is a single letter chapter) is already struggling? And if you aren't remembering, there will be more empty houses on the row in the coming years with all the new houses being built (aka the old ADPi house that AXO is using now and the old Alpha Gam house that Chi O is in now) so SDT could possibly move into one of those if they got their numbers up. At other schools close go UA, SDT participates and is competitive in formal recruitment so their nationals could simply have some of those girls come in and help the Alabama chapter run recruitment.

the SDT rush at UT caused a lot of problems. It lowered quota for all the houses and caused a lot of girls to get cut by houses they otherwise would likely have gotten a bid from. A house that can't compete really shouldn't try.

Before any group colonizes, they have to be invited to present and then be invited to colonize.

I kind of doubt AXiD and Sigma Kappa are interested since they both left campus twice. Neither is strong at Auburn (SK is lower middle and AXiD is near the bottom), but Auburn is totally different anyway since they don't have the expense of houses.

Tri Sigma doesn't have the resources -- they do have a chapter at Mizzou, but they struggle with numbers and retention and are reportedly on the verge of losing their new house.

The other NPCs just don't have the numbers or the name recognition in the South. Delta Phi Epsilon presented last year but wasn't invited to recolonize.

There are plenty of sororities and plenty of schools where chapters are on their third go around. You have to remember that RFM wasn't introduced until 2004-2006ish. It was a different world when these chapters closed before.

You are correct that Tri-Sigma likely doesn't have the resources, nor do really any of the remaining groups.

As to Sigma Kappa, I think they are the most likely to colonize. Alpha Xi Delta will NEVER, EVER return (mind you, that's my opinion only). The other sororities and fraternities were extremely cruel to them, both times. Their chapter at Jacksonville State is thriving and always has; at UAB, it's doing OK, and at Auburn, it struggles a little. But the big thing is that they do not have a good history with the U of Alabama.

that's all well and good that they like being a "niche" group, but then call them what they are, or more like what they are NOT. they are not performing, participating, or recruiting like NPC chapters at bama. having a special group a la ADX, Gamma Sigma Sigma, Omega Phi Alpha, Sigma Alpha Iota, these are special "niche" groups who can recruit as they please as they are not NPC sororities. Sigma Delta Tau is an NPC sorority and should be expected to meet the same standards as the rest of us. Meaning meeting participating in formal recruitment, meeting quota, and maintaining total.

@Well SNAPS TO YOU! I agree. SDT it a great group not living up to it's potential because we just keep saying "oh it's ok, they can't do it so they shouldn't" ridiculous! SDT as a national organization and a local chapter has just as much ability to perform as any of us here. Given the proper housing and recolonization team, and SUPPORT from not only SDT but our NPC community, they can be just as successful as any of us.

EK and AXiD are both higher profile nationally and in the South than SSS. Tri Sig is basically limited to a lot of small schools in the South and West Coast. Their only chapters at big schools are in the Midwest and Northeast and a lot of them struggle too. They're bigger than TPA, AST, ASA, and PSS, but they're virtually nonexistent at D1 schools in the South.

That is the truth! It is almost like we had two sororities within one house.

everywhere, it in no way indicates these comments aren't from Bama Greeks. This is speculation about the future, not next Fall.

I am a Sigma Kappa and am so excited to hear that we are colonizing at Tuscaloosa, where my daughter is a freshman! What do prospective members need to do to be considered?

How long until you guys are actually on campus? Like when will things actually start happening? I'm also a Sigma Kappa legacy but I was thinking of just going through formal recruitment next fall. Is it worth waiting?

Sigma Kappa is listed as Fall 2018 colony. We'll see if that date stands or is moved.

The choice to be on a campus rests with not only with which groups expressed official and original interest in colonizing but when and who the campus/panhel invites to present when 'open for expansion'. I have no inside knowledge but suspect PhiSigs did not express interest, and if they did they simply were not chosen to present toward colonization.

Very, very few Phi Sig chapters in the South; thus very, very, very few Phi Sig alumnae in Alabama to provide advisers.

Phi Sigma Sigma did not respond to UA's invitation to present.
