Alabama Bid Day from a different college perspective

by:

Why do the sororities’ initiated sisters wear dresses fo bid day? It looks very uncomfortable in the heat not to dress in comfy bid day costumes for a fun theme. Isn’t bid day like Halloween # 2? Why do you girls look like you’re at a wedding lol?
Give us some context plz.

It's a semi-formal event for us, same as game days.

I think the costumes and treating it like Halloween has a super tacky vibe.

There’s plenty of time as an active to dress up in themed costumes for date parties. Bid day is a special event and should be treated as such.

Oh I didn’t realize date parties have themes! At my school date parties are always a formal event and socials always have a theme where you dress up for it

in general, at bama girls dress more formal for lots of events, due to the more preppy fashion. work week, date parties, swaps and even going out are more causal or have fun themes. bid day at Alabama is deeply rooted in tradition, for decades actives have worn dresses and it would be unfitting to be wearing matching t shirts compared to the historical context of bid day

I like the tradition of dressing up. It's nicer than the same silver tinsel skirt and blue lipstick, or butterfly wings and boxer braids that you see all over the place. It's a bama tradition, why be ordinary?

most other sororities in the country do themed bid day cause they barely have events that have themes. at Bama, the amount of swaps, date parties, and other events that go on are insanely common so themed events are never hard to come by. Since Bama also puts on the biggest rush in the nation, we have a lot more eyes on us and lot more importance in it. Being more formal and proper sticks to tradition and paints a better light on such a big part of Bama tradition. We have been in school less than two whole weeks yet most Greek organizations have had 3+ themed events so far.

What everyone else said. Plus the girls spend most of the week besides pref in themed clothing (I know some dress up for sisterhood but my house doesn’t) so it’s fun to dress up and get cute at the end of the week
