Pref/bid question
by: SupaSteppaIf I put ZTA as #1, and Aphi as #2, but Aphi ranks me higher than Zeta, which one will I end up in?

The algorithm will first try to match you with Zeta. If you match with them before they reach Quota you will get Zeta. If not, the algorithm will then try to match you with APhi. If you match with them before they reach Quota you will get APhi. But, if they reach Quota and you are still unmatched, the algorithm will put you as a Quota Addition to either house based on your ranks, the houses' ranks, the two chapter sizes, and other factors.

It was all hand matching with the rush chairs from each house gathered in a room until late at night. It was simpler though, because there was no RFM and no Quota Plus, so a lot of girls who attended prefs would not get matched because quota was reached and that was that, and the snap bidding would be common for some houses. It is sooo much better now.

Just because you sabotaged your second choice doesn't put you any higher at your first choice. The top of someone's bid list is relative to each chapter. You could be tippy top at one house but fall much lower at another, depending on what they are looking for, how well you rushed there during the week, and how they rank their other pnm's. The sororities have no idea where you rank them all week, including pref, so the choices you put down do not figure at all into where they rank you. With that said, most pnm's, statistically, get their first choice. Most, not all.

Genuine question - how did the algorithm even work without computers like it seems so complicated!!
