The answer you are looking for is there is certain houses that are more desirable to in-state girls and some areas in neighbor states because it where their mom's, aunts, grandmas and so forth went. These girls are then indoctrinated from the time they talk you have to go to that house as everybody in their hometown social circles also did as well. So, you can see how competitive it is to get a certain house when you have multiple generational legacies, along with alums who contribute financially to the house writing the recs for a pnm. This does not mean someone from the East Coast won't get in because they do mostly because there are not enough in-state girls going to Bama compared to out of state girls to make quota.

Considering many of the OR fraternities/sororities aren’t ‘southern,’ I’ve always found this interesting. Unless you consider MA, NY, OH, PA, etc., to be the south. Many were not founded in the south, and some don’t even have their HQs in the south.
