Chi O dropping girls

by: pnm

Why did so many girls get dropped by chi o after the first round? It seems like they made more cuts than other houses like sooooo many girls in my rho chi group were cut by XO

RFM, the numbers game of recruitment, makes chapters with historically high retention rates cut more girls

Retention rate is basically how many girls wanted to go back to that house. Houses find out the rate of girls wanting them back. So for example they might have like a 99% retention rate that means they are making huge cuts.

RFM makes it so sororities with higher retention rates have to cut more girls so that sororities with lower retention rates have a better chance of making quota. This is what we mean when we say it is a numbers game. If more girls want a sorority, that sorority has to cut more girls.

Return rate. The number of PNMs who rank them highest and want to return to them during recruitment. Every year Panhellenic takes these numbers and based on each chapter’s return rates from past years they assign a percentage they have to drop. This is how they even out the parties and also it makes it fair for the PNMs. There are popular houses everyone wants to return to but these houses can’t take everyone. It’s better for them to make deep cuts early so PNMs can focus on houses they realistically can belong to.

High retention rates mean that girls don’t drop the sorority

And just to make it clear RFM stands for release figure methodology. It has do to with recruitment RETURN rates NOT retention rates. Retention rates are how many pledges drop after bid day, how many initiate the chapter, how many drop within a year, two years etc. after initiation. A chapter can have excellent return rates but poor retention rates. This is a lot of complicated info but it explains why some chapters have deeper cuts and there is a lot of misinformation out there that needs to be cleared up.
