The REAL Truth about Old Row.

by:

I have to agree Old Row still has appeal for SOME. If your grandma can name the old row houses or your best friends from HS grandmas can, then OR has appeal over all other houses. NO DOUBT.

But let’s be serious, if grandma (or your friends grandma) can’t name these houses then there really isn’t a “distinction”.

Despite what your read here, OR doesn’t have a lock on “money”. There are “rich” girls and girls on loans in every house, and the idea of “old money” isn’t relevant in any house to any large degree. When the topic of “old money” comes up, the conversation is usually cringe-worthy, y’all don’t have a clue.

Some OR houses may have a stronger southern/Christian/Conservative feel, and they like to think they have “more class”, but tastes across houses are generally more similar than different. You can find plenty of s-ut- outfits, girls jumping the fence (because they’ve slept with more than 3 guys in a certain frat) and girls who are too drunk in any house these days.

Physical structures are similar.

Parties and social events are similar. Yea, maybe some houses hang out more with guys from “the right” Alabama/certain-southern locales, again beneficial to some, but there are others who think - you can have them as they are stereotyped guys with Dad bods with bad hair.

Given that the numbers for out of state students are similar to in state, the appeal of OR is there - but certainly diminishing.

So, more billionaire/multi-millionaires’ kids in NR vs OR, and it’s not even close. There are plenty of kids of wealthy parents in OR, but they pull from a much smaller gene pool.

This is one of those cringe worthy comments.

There are only 700 billionaires in the US and for what it’s worth none in Alabama.

Billionaire children are not part of the equation in Bama Greek life, and frankly nor are they a “majority” anywhere. This is a very exclusive club and while you may know the names (Bezos, Walton, Koch, Gates, etc) it’s a silly benchmark as a reference to life in ANY given place.

By contrast there are over 20 million millionaires in the US. Hardly a distinction!

So what is wealth? 5, 10 and 100 million are all notable thresholds (and both a far cry from billionaire).

Generally, I believe many would be surprised by the level of wealth among the students - and particularly Greek students - at Bama. Wealth in the tens of million not “billions” arena - still one percenters, which takes about an $11 million net worth.

And just so we don’t get too confused “old money” has nothing to do with either, even the billionaires - there are very few “old money” billionaires. And just because Mom wears “Lilly and pearls” and “Ashley” is in an old row house doesn’t mean your money is “old” - even if there is a boat load of it!

Only thing ‘cringe worthy’ is your reading comprehension. In any event, there is also more old money in NR vs. OR.

Every house has hundreds of women. Every house has rich, on-aid, etc members. Every house has women who really want and love that house. Every house has social committees with decades of passed down experience in creating awesome social experience for their members. Anyone who tries to tell you that some house is sooo much better than another is lying to themselves and to you! Every house offer top of the line gorgeous mansion living and would be #1 on any other campus. Love and enjoy whichever house you get…. plenty of women are completely cut during recruitment.

There are more “boring” types in OR. Just saying. Particularly, AGD, XO, AXO.

That being said KKG, DDD and KD are fun/not boring. KKG known as a “partier” house and DDD and KD very social.

Phi Mu a funny mix, fashionable and social, but have a kind of “don't wrinkle my clothes” vibe!
