The truth ab old row

i actually dropped all the old row houses bc y’all were weird and one house a girl kept touching my leg and made me uncomfortable. sorry sweetheart, we get it you’re a yeehaw jesus bible study kinda girl but why do you have such a superiority complex and think you’re better than everyone else? exactly why i would AVOID old row sororities 🤢

Maybe this was true 10 years ago. In case you haven't noticed, Bama is attracting more and more high quality out of state students. Many of the OOS girls haven't been subject to the high school mantras of "Go Old Row or go home!" and are more likely to leave Alabama after graduation. Yeah, some will go Old Row, but some really great girls will get cut in favor of much less pretty/less intelligent/less interesting girls who happen to come from Mountain Brook, etc. Good for Pi Phi/ZTA/Gamma Phi, etc. who have grown much stronger taking out of state girls who are much less included to drink the Old Row Coolaid.

Note: There are some amazing girls in Old Row, don't get me wrong. But there are also some real dullards/girls stuck in their junior year of high school with no intellectual curiosity or common courtesy.

This is true primarily for the in state girls who grew up in the “bubble”.

Other than these girls- there isnt an old row preference and for some OOR it’s actually less desired.

no this is facts, I’m in NR but I can admit almost everyone I rushed w wanted to go OR. I’m content w NR tho. but it’s embarrassing how much many of us NR try and defend ourselves bc PNMs themselves will see it for themselves during rush so there’s no use

There are some OR houses that a large majority of PMNs will want, but many OOS/OOR girls will not be interested in certain OR houses at all. Most OOS girls I know were not at all interested in KD or Kappa. Also some OR cut a large majority of OOS girls after the first round anyway, so they don't really have time to get connected and want them anyway.

The only OR houses I was interested in as a pnm was Kappa (loved their philanthropy and had a friend who was a kappa and loved it), phi Mu (philanthropy, gorgeous house, killer reputation), and Tri delt (legacy). KD and Alpha Gam were my bottom two - beneath theta and sigma kappa. My number 1 during rush was PiPhi.

I think many OOR girls like the concept of OR but the reality is that it really doesn’t have much influence on their decisions going through recruitment. They don’t have friends and connections to these houses. There’s somewhat of a false sense of confidence displayed by OR which isn’t realistic. Not
Every PNM has to have OR! I’m OOR and liked a few OR houses but ultimately knew I wouldn’t fit in them. The only girls who cherish OR are the IS girls and girls from surrounding southern states. Naturally, they have friends, acquaintances and life-long connections. I would too if I came from Mountain Brook, Montgomery or Mobile. OR, you can’t have it both ways! You can’t want select OOR PNMs to “fill” your pledge classes and then go on to say OOR girls will never truly fit in. This will only continue as UA recruited high quality OOR students. You need to figure out what you want and live with the consequences.

You will NOT care about OR / NR a week after you have your bid. You will swap with the same fraternities. Do you want to wear Old Row shirt? Every redneck in my home town have Old Row gear from the website. You might miss the super swap! You will survive. The only fraternity that might care is DKE and they are weird dad bod legacies.
