Houses don't 'determine' wealth as criteria for membership, nor do they spend any time searching for signs of it. They will not run your zip code to check your parents' wealth. That is a rumor that uninformed outsiders like to spread. Girls who know each other from the same schools, camps, neighborhoods, family friends, etc. are connected and already know each other, or of each other. When these acquaintances happen to be centered around private schools, certain neighborhoods, or other groups that people see as affluent, the judging begins. "Oh, they ONLY want wealthy girls" is thrown around and "I got dropped because I'm not rich enough" when the fact is that these girls already knew each other and that gave them the edge, and the unknown but really cute and qualified girls that a house also loved got cut because they simply didn't have those contacts. It's a numbers game, not cutting because of money. If you can pay your dues, dress cute (don't have to wear designer) and afford all the social costs then you'll be fine.
