What Are My Odds?

Is that true so is it actually more advantageous rushing as an upperclassman? Is it worth forgoing rush as a freshman competing against thousands vs. missing out on a year of Greek life but probably getting into the house of your choice when you’re only going up against 100 or so?

I’m the original poster and I definitely think you should rush as a freshman. You might end up with more houses on your card for philanthropy and sisterhood round, but those houses will still drop you if they want to. It also won’t matter this year because almost 100% chance every house will be taking larger PC’s than normal. Houses that normally take ~110 will take ~130, houses that normally take ~130 will take ~150, etc.

"Houses are only allowed to cut so many each round" is incorrect and misunderstood all the time. Houses can cut whomever they want at any time. There is no required amount of upperclassmen to carry or bid. The difference is the separate quotas, so upperclassmen aren't competing with freshmen for spots. To OP, as a sophomore, it's going to be much more about your freshman year resume and grades and not so much HS. And of course who knows you and can speak for you. Someone else commented about getting recs from in-house actives, but that's not a thing. In-house actives don't write recs for PNM's, they talk you up (or down) in person to their chapter. If you have those connections they will be the main thing going for you. Good luck.

Uh. I don’t think you know what a quota is. You’re literally saying the same thing as the og poster. They’re saying they can only drop idk 20 upperclassman open house round and they have to keep 90. (These are obv made up numbers). They HAVE to keep 90, but out of the 110 total they can drop whatever 20 they want. Houses have to keep a certain number of upperclassmen each round. If you’re gonna be pretentious at least be right lmao

@Yikes you don't understand what Quota is and need to brush up on NPC rules. Quota is a maximum number, not a minimum. A house can't take over Quota, or carry more than RFM allows, but there is no mandate whatsoever for having to keep anyone. Obviously a house wants to take as many as possible, but taking the whole Quota of upperclassmen isn't nearly as important as freshman Quota, and a good house will not take the full RFM number or Quota of upperclassmen if they don't want them all. Houses are much pickier on upperclassmen. Again, Quota is a maximum number allowed, not a minimum number required. You can't enforce a minimum, and only a desperate house will take an undesirable pnm just for their numbers.
